So why no star-man?

I'm new to the forums so I don't know if this has been answered already and a search turns out that "star" is too ambiguous. So the question is: why do they have most of the power-ups from the 2D Mario games but not some of the classic power-ups? I'm not necessarily talking about just the star power but also other ones such as the cape feather or the frog/penguin suit.

I don't particularly "care" why they don't have it but since it's from the original 4 items in SMB, I'm just "wondering" if there was a reason behind not including it. I always considered the fire flower a pseudo-star if I used it correctly, anyway.

The main proper reason as of why the Starman wasn't there is because of the SM64 based system like that those stars are actually collectable for a reason to gain access to the later worlds.

Redigit got lost in the woods, he got stuck in a beartrap and he got his ass bitten off by a bird. Also a shooting star fell on his head and gave him brain damage. That's why.

No, I don't think that's the main reason. Sure, that's one of the reasons, but that's not exactly why he refused to include it.
The main reason he refused to include the Starman in future versions of SMBX (well we're not getting any more SMBX updates anyway) is because he thought everyone was going to abuse it and make levels too easy.

I don't think Redigit would be unable to make flashing colors. That's literally just recoloring the character sprite a few different ways.

The only legitimate answer is that Redigit couldn't recolor a sprite sheet a few times.

Yeah I'm not buying it, sorry. I'm standing by my theory that he just didn't implement it before going off to make Terraria.

He literally admitted to it when he was asked years ago. Also at the time of release he didn't use spritesheets, each player frame was 1 file, so doing a whole other collection of colours would have been the dumbest shit ever, so he wanted to do it with code, but he couldn't so that's why the starman doesn't exist in SMBX.
