SMBX VS Super Mario Maker - What Do You Think?

Postby ThunderTricity » Sat Oct 10, 2015 6:41 pm

This has been something on my mind for a while. Since I just joined the SMBX Forums, I wanted to start with a question: SMBX or Super Mario Maker?
Personally, I like both. SMM has variety in enemies, while SMBX one has slopes.
You can't forget slopes

I think the whole "SMBX vs Mario Maker" thing is an apples-and-oranges thing. Yes, both games are Mario-based level creators, but honestly that's kind of where the similarities end (at least imo).

I'm not going near saying "OH GAME A IS BETTER GAME B IS NOTHING."

But since I have played both games, I can say that there are difference and similarities. Just going to state something of both.

Similarities:
Several stuff from different games can be picked and used(SMB, SMB3, SMW). It's pretty good to have more variety in designs.

Differences:
The mechanics are not as the same as when I play SMBX/SMM. One fire plant spitter can spit fast fireballs that pierces through walls, the other spits out a slower fireball and doesn't pass through blocks. The way of how you control the character also feels different(well for me it is).

SMBX allows you to do alot more.

It allows you to modify and customize npc's

and it allows you to make episodes and events.

Super Mario Maker doesnt stand a chance, even though it's mechanic's are better.

So will you actually refute my point or instead use an image macro in order to be edgy as fuck?

Uhm, anyway SMBX can be customized in every way - be it enemies, blocks, music, sounds. Heck even HUDs can be customized! Super Mario Maker on the other hand is much more limited - you can play only with things that game originally provided and you can't really customize anything, except from enemies. Also you can share whole SMBX games online, unlike in Mario Maker.

The only good thing I can see in Mario Maker is that it's easier to use, though I've never had any problems with both SMBX and PGE (you can call it new SMBX) editors.

Basically what I want. Same thing includes like PS vs XBOX, something vs something, etc.

Why? I don't like arguements. They never seem to end in a positive way unless if everyone prefers the same thing, which is very unlikely to happen in a VS topic.

What I meant was how SMM allowed you to do stuff like add wings to certain enemies or powerups. Looking back, I actually forgot about customizing enemies at the time. :?

There is a simple explanation that will blow your mind
SMBX is for pc!
SMM is for Wii U!

I should had just used that as a difference instead. Though if I did, that's like going to create another arguement...

"Oh look! SMBX is for PC so SMM is worse! MUHAHAHHAHAHAH*cough*cough*"

Yeah I'm done. Not going for choosing. I think both provide at the very least, a enjoyable experience.

Super Mario Maker DOESN'T stand a chance against Mario. The only things it stands out with are different enemies and new graphics. And look, SMBX has those now too!

We can do almost infinite things with SMBX. SMM doesn't even have slopes. To me, it's a waste of $60 USD.

Yeah, it's also quite expensive here in Ukraine too. Don't really feel like buying a limited Mario editor, when I have a free Mario editor where the capabilities are endless. Plus PGE is going to come out soon.
I'm with you.

I don't know. I'm guessing until a heated(or something similar) arguement comes up and doesn't end. Basically since this is a SMBX forums, expectations on results was pretty much biased, but we already know that.

But I'm being serious: Why are we going through something like this? I rather have a "SMBX and SMM relations"(basically opposite of this one) than things like this, it's just saying how one thing is better than others. It's like saying iPhone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy 6, since we already know which is capable of doing more.

There are plenty of levels (an overwhelming amount actually, imo) that are amazing on their own right, no slopes or fancy custom GFX needed. Do the new tilesets for SMB1 and 3 count as custom graphics or do they not get that title because they were also made by Nintendo? How does that work?

You missed my point. Lua isn't necessary, CGFX isn't necessary. But they are what add onto SMBX. Tell me the pluses of SMM over SMBX and then tell me the pluses of SMBX over SMM.

SMBX may be more buggy, but it's got a near endless editor with perks like PGE and Lua. How endless is SMM?
