Re: How long was the typical Mario 3 level?

Both of those width estimates are too high, actually (300 is way too high). These levels are positively tiny. I took a random level map (no fortresses or airships) from each world and divided its width by 16 to get the level width. Every section's width in tiles is a multiple of 16 (not surprisingly...

Re: How long was the typical Mario 3 level?

Super Mario Bros. 3 has extremely short levels as it doesn't support checkpoints. I believe the 3 minute estimates are too high. I'm looking at a few videos for reference and most levels take less than two minutes to get to the end (deaths excluded), including the final castle. Some take less than o...

Re: How many world types are there??

There shouldn't be any limit to world "types". Those should not be something that's pre-defined and everyone has to pick from the same pool. My recommendation is to just use whatever themes you want, combine mutiple, make theme-less worlds (Yoshi's Island and Donut Plains in Super Mario World hardly...

Re: Runtime Error 6

That kind of error would probably be caused by the game's engine overloading for whatever reason, so computer specs shouldn't affect it. It just doesn't seem to be coded to be able to handle everything flawlessly, looking at the limits on level objects and strange errors that only seem to occur whil...

Re: Holding a shell against Mother Brain NPC hurts it

Hm, I guess blocking access in some manner is the way to go then if I don't want to scrap it entirely. I was hoping there was something I was missing that could solve it without such an "obvious bug prevention patch". I'm admittedly a bit surprised that there isn't, since Mother Brain seems like a p...

Re: Holding a shell against Mother Brain NPC hurts it

Well, I'm spawning Koopa Troopas in my experimental boss room thingy. Putting a rainbow shell would break the concept I had in mind. (For future reference, everything that normally reacts and causes damage when holding it against something seems to have this problem, including vegetables, Galoombas,...

Holding a shell against Mother Brain NPC hurts it

I've been experimenting with the Mother Brain NPC and it appears that standing in front of it while holding a (Super Mario Bros. 3) shell so it overlaps the boss causes it to continuously take damage without destroying the shell. Is there anything that can be done about this? I've tinkered with the ...

Black Forest Cakes! Other kinds of cakes as well, but especially Black Forest. Also most kinds of fast food and fattening things in general, as long as it's pescetarian (that's vegetarian plus seafood, for those unaware). That includes home-making things like hamburgers with meat substitute patties ...

Re: Normal lengthed SMBX Levels

Nintendo Levels are usually 1-4 Minutes Long... can be longer or even shorter than that but often by that direction. Nintendo's level lengths are somewhat proportionate to the number of checkpoints. Super Mario Bros. 3 has very short levels, but it also has no checkpoints. Yoshi's Island has fairly...

Re: What are some trends in SMBX episodes that annoy you?

It worries me because almost none of my ideas have any Mario things in them aside from the engine, and if people get annoyed at supposed "Mario" games not having Mario characters (i.e: an episode about Cirno) then I'm fucked. :| As far as I can tell, the thread is more about personal nitpicks than ...

Re: background graphical issue

Hm. I honestly don't know too much about technical things, but I can at least say with certainty that it's not a problem with the game in specific. It's a kind of graphics glitch that seems to happen for all sorts of reasons, though. It looks like what sometimes happened with parts of my OS when my ...

Re: background graphical issue

Yeah, it doesn't look like a problem with the game. It looks like a graphics card issue. Are you sure the hardware is identical? Are the graphics card drivers the same on both?

You can move the windows around and resize them in any way you want. Nothing is fixed in place. Click "Window" -> "Sub Windows" to turn the tabs into little windows too.

Re: PGE Alternate Editor Question

I've been finding it a lot easier and more practical to use, though I haven't done much with the integrated editor. It's more organised, has support for custom graphics, an integrated NPC text file editor etc. and it's generally more intuitive and customisable in its menus, toolbars and the like. Yo...

Re: Super Mario Legends: Part I (Complete)

About Pirate Paradise, I'm starting to think it is too hard for it's placement in the game. Perhaps I can make it optional? That's really the only idea I have, because making the whole level easier would require a ton of restructuring. I am thinking it would help a lot already if the first dragon c...

Re: Super Mario Legends: Part I (Complete)

My main issue with the minecart and rocket shoe is that they always appear at the end of the level, ready to punish people that want to go for all dragon coins. Forcing you to restart if you die or mess up. I came here to specifically point this out. I've been playing the episode recently and it's ...

Re: What are some trends in SMBX episodes that annoy you?

for some reason it can't read a single dot there. Haven't tested and maybe this is known already, but I'm fairly confident it has to do with the decimal symbol set in the regional/language settings in control panel under Windows operating systems. It may be set to a comma , instead of a dot . so it...

Re: Alternate Editor for SMBX [0.2.2-rc]

It would be great to have an in-program feature to remove the custom tilesets, or an explanation how to do it manually. I've been keeping around a few sets I made by accident while trying out the feature because I never knew how to remove them. I had been looking everywhere in the program and the he...
