Re: SMBX2 (2.0 Beta 3)

What do you mean? No 2D sonic has ever incorporated 3D elements, unless you're talking about the background. In that case, we have solutions for that. So, explain the simplest of things, that being Sonic going through loops, and disappearing behind the foreground. That is Z-Offset, and on a sidescr...

Re: SMBX2 (2.0 Beta 3)

yeah good luck adding a 360 degree physics system to a premade game not designed for a 360 degree physics system i mean you could probably add some momentum attacks and a more "flow-based" kind of gameplay style but nah no way you're gonna be able to recreate his whole "classic sonic...

Re: SMBX2 (2.0 Beta 3)

you have to admit that you won’t be able to work with an excessively large toolbox. Actually I don't have to admit this because it's not true. When it comes to flexibility, it's always better to remove limitations, however they may occur. The size of the toolbox is less of an issue than its organis...

Re: SMBX2 (2.0 Beta 3)

this game is still called Super Mario Bros X? I don't buy this argument, to be honest. SMBX is a game engine designed primarily for making Mario fangames. This much is true. However, that doesn't mean other elements can't be included if they provide interesting tools. Even Redigit added Link as a p...

Re: Suggestions for 2.0

And one more thing: LunaLua is a program made with lua, not a coding language in itself. Humble yourself and listen to yourself. This isn't actually accurate. LunaLua is an extension module written in C++ and ASM, which hooks a Lua environment to SMBX. The LunaLua API consists if those hooks and so...

To clarify, the PGE Editor is default with SMBX2. The Legacy Editor is only included with SMBX 1.3.

Re: Smbx 2.0 Beta 3 Removed Costumes

We're cutting down on the number of costumes in the basegame download to save filesize and make maintaining them easier when we finally get new powerups. Costumes were always designed to be downloadable addons, so people setting up costume packs like this os encouraged.

What if Willbart was a Hopeless Romantic and did not posess the ability to know any Boundaries? Poor Willbart. Stalking is creepy no matter how you Slice it though. I do hope he finds Robot Jesus. He had plenty of opportunities to back down. A number of people were trying for almost a year. He was ...

The powers ups are not really important if you can make her fitting in the right kind of levels, this is a way to make completely different kind of levels to offer a completely new kind of gameplay. Was she boring to play in her own game? I dunno, since I never played it, but still, I guess it didn...

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

I do know how to do simple loops in code, its just different in lua. No it's not. The only difference is the use of the iterator function (usually the "pairs" function), but you didn't even use that, opting for a regular loop instead (which is actually fine). The thing is, if you did in f...

Try Defines.levelFreeze. That mimics the effect of the stopwatch, without the music.

Misc.pause() simualtes the pause menu, which also stops onTick from running.

1. Custom Transperency. So some stuff like overworld blocks have no transperency right? Well when adding transperency, it still shows the entire image. it may not seem like a big deal, but a lot of inportant stuff like dummy bocks have no transperency. So this needs to get fixed. This is literally ...

Re: Why do backgrounds go in front of sizables, and how can I work around it?

Yes, it's technically a beta, but that doesn't really mean much. It's still much more stable than SMBX 1.3, and with a lot more features. There really isn't a reason NOT to upgrade.

Re: SMBX2 (2.0 Beta 3)

I waited until it said that I have to force close it, saying "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly" That doesn't actually mean a lot. What that means is that the program is busy doing something, and has been for a long time. Often, this is because the program has got...

I'd suggest switching to SMBX2. Not only is PGE the default editor, but it comes with a bunch of extra features like Starman and new playable characters.

Re: August SMBX problems

I use SMBX 1.3.0.1 and I'm not planning to use other versions as they have more problems than normal versionss except when smbx 2.0 gets updated to the fullest. Thing is, SMBX2 can solve many of the performance problems you have with little to no tradeoffs. You just have to update your graphics dri...

Re: runtime error 9 problem

We need to kmow which version of the game you're playing. SMBX 38A is known to have a few bugs in it that causes this error. SMBX 1.3 does too, but those are mostly fixed in SMBX2. Also, that error isn't specific. It can occur for a number of different reasons. The only information it really gives i...

Re: Hitboxes

So I can do circle blocks? Or that only works for slopes? Hitbox shapes are defined by the block ID, in general terms. All slope blocks will have triangular hitboxes, but if you supply graphics of a different size, the hitbox will stretch accordingly. You can turn 45 degree slopes into 22.5 degree ...

Re: Hitboxes

https://www.supermariobrosx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=1012 You could make 22.5 degrees slope with that. You could just calculate some values so you can get a 25 degrees slope. This is completely unnecessary with PGE. This thread was about how to do this in the 1.3 legacy editor. The PGE e...

Why do people leave out the API code and have the player paste it in? Does not make sense. What? PixelPest's code is meant to be placed in level Lua, not in an API file. This had nothing to do with PP. Every time I come across a LunaLua code, the Read Me says to paste in the API code. THEY FRICKING...
