PGE? Sorry, I'm very new and I don't know much about PCs or the sort if it's relating to that.

It's the new editor for SMBX, used by SMBX2 (which I suggest you just use anyway, it's a newer version than 1.3).

If it's low quality in 2.0 beta 3, it was low quality in 1.3 too. Again, it's using exactly the same sounds. Unchanged.

Devan2002 wrote:Does anyone think the sound quality for Link sounds worse than 1.3.0.1? Because in 1.3.0.1, it sounded exactly like A Link to the Past.

The sounds are unchanged in Beta 3. They are still exactly the same as in 1.3.0.1.

In Beta 4 the only difference is that the rupee sound is slightly quieter.

Re: Do you HAVE to use PNG files as custom graphics for SMBX2?

i use png's as i find them easier to work with, but no, PNG's are optional, you can use GIF's. but if you use gif's, you need a mask for it. It's strongly recommended not to use .gif files though, because they're more of a hassle to work with and usually end up with larger filesize and more clutter...

This will be possible for BGOs in Beta 4, but not Blocks just yet.

You are incorrect. The noclip cheat gives you complete freedom of motion, as it's designed for debugging.

However, Beta 4 also provides a way to disable cheats outside the editor, so that could solve the issue.

It requires a complete overhaul of the audio system, possibly away from SDL.

This is on the table in the far future, but it's the far future.

Not strictly speaking true. 50 does have a counterpart but it is guaranteed to be invisible, since it's not on the sheet.

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

Shadows will be done based on priority rendering. You won't be able to set it on a per-block or per-npc basis, but it needs a new feature in the base engine for this to work.

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

In order for shadows to work, you have to specify what actually casts shadows. That's the shadow geometry.

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

The one planned for beta 4 is a bit more dynamic, but still doesn't yet respond to geometry for shadows. And that means what exactly? What shadow geometry? Let me give an example: Will we be able to create a dark cave with torches that make the room brighter? Will we be able to use those on/off lig...

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

Not perfectly, currently. The footage here uses pre-baked geometry, so it wouldn't respond to moving objects. What's shown in the trailer is actually a huge hack that just uses a capture buffer to draw circles around light sources. The one planned for beta 4 is a bit more dynamic, but still doesn't...

Re: SMBX2 (2.0 Beta 3)

New NPCs will exist alongside old ones - from an editor perspective there won't be a visible difference. All new NPCs will be useable without LunaLua, though some may have optional extensions from the Lua side. No, what I meant is wouldn't it be easier in the long run to extend PGE instead of SMBX....

Re: What are the PGE Experimental Liquids, and what do they do?

38A was written from scratch, but SMBX2 was not, and is building on top of 1.3. This means there are some things we don't have easy access to changing while still retaining backwards compatibility. That said, PGE plugins will allow us to add more things directly into the editor that can do this sort...

Were those SMBX 38A (1.4) episodes? Episodes made for SMBX38A won't work with SMBX2.

Re: What are the PGE Experimental Liquids, and what do they do?

The liquids aren't available because they're not part of the SMBX game engine. They're not part of the level file format, and they don't exist in the game itself.

lunatime is an API that keeps track of how many ticks and seconds have passed since the level has started, as well as providing functions for converting between the two. % is the modulo operator in Lua. Oh. Thanks! Do you know how many ticks are in a second in Lua? Approximately 64. 2500/39, to be ...
