Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

Just as an aside, you should probably be using RNG.random rather than math.random. RNG.random is more reliable and in most cases faster than math.random.

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

It's like function onEvent("eventName") if eventName == "yourEventNameHere" then -- do stuff end end This is incorrect. You should not use quotes in function arguments. The correct code is: function onEvent(eventName) if eventName == "yourEventNameHere" then -- do stuf...

Re: What does this mean?

This looks like an error that can occur when you have a custom effect file and no corresponding graphic.

Re: Why won't Grafs move forward?

Notice how the time it works you're actually assigning something? You need to assign to "x" - i.e., the horizontal position. Just writing some equations out doesn't tell it what you want it to do with that equation. You need to assign it.

Re: 3 Consecutive errors!

Often, errors will cascade. If one thing fails, multiple things will start to fail which may not seem related. This isn't something we can control, it's just the nature of how programs work (keep in mind that retail software also errors like this, it's just that most of it closes down the moment it ...

You don't need it. You can just use background2-n.txt, which is there. It does exactly the same thing.

Re: What performance must my laptop have for SMBX 2b4.4?

You shouldn't have any problems running SMBX2 with those specs from what I can see. Whether it's "lag free" or not depends a lot on the episodes in question, but in theory that should be just fine.

Re: World Map Render Priority

Sadly render priority doesn't work on the world map - the default renderer draws underneath everything except the HUD.

Re: Critical Review of SMBX 2.0 as an Update

Wine is not platform-independent. Emulators can grant platform-independence. Compatibility layers cannot. Like Wohlstand said, Wine doesn't help modern MacOS users or Linux users with non-x86 Hardware. Sure, but it's a case of coverage. WINE covers a good portion of non-Windows users, and is a &quo...

Re: How to make the top of the custom Background (background of the level) not cut off?

That didn't provide any of the information you were asked for. What is the ID of the background you're replacing? Are you using a background2.txt file? If so, please post it.

Re: Critical Review of SMBX 2.0 as an Update

The fact, Me and my friends were doing the same work on the TheXTech side You know full well I was referring to POST 1.3 episodes - ones with LunaLua code attached. That's the only way to ensure long-term platform-independence. Unless PCs become much more powerful and x86 Emulation becomes feasible...

Re: Critical Review of SMBX 2.0 as an Update

Why is it elitist? This is a criticism of X2's inherent lack of accessibility. If anything, that's the opposite of elitism. If the criticism were more generally about platform independence that would be one thing, but it's the specific element of "it's only valid if a user can compile it from ...

dang well is it atleast possible to get rid of the default hud so i can attempt to make one from scratch? Re: Critical Review of SMBX 2.0 as an Update

I mean in sense, the SMBX2 is not a full source package (it's a mixture of blobs and pieces built not by you), you can't just build the solid and monolithic executable of the game from the sources to work on any other processor than x86 and x86_64 (for example, on ARM, if you just using any transla...

Re: Bubble Hud help

You can't. Not easily anyway. Map3D re-renders the entire world map from scratch, and relies on that to display the different HUD formats. It's theoretically maybe possible to re-create but I suspect it would be a lot of work.

Code: Select all

function onTickEnd()

This will just empty out the reserve powerup as soon as it gets filled.

Re: Critical Review of SMBX 2.0 as an Update

The SMBX2 in fact is not a fully standalone engine, it's a hack over Redigit's executable blob. This is a completely functionally meaningless statement. While it may be technically accurate, it makes no difference for people actually using the engine. It's not less useful or valuable because it's b...

You don't need to do either of those. It's a lot simpler. You can just do Section(0).darkness.enabled = false.

That doesn't need any Lua code at all. You can just enable it in the section settings.
