Gimmicks Brainstorming

Gimmicks are the level concepts that involve some sort of additional, usually more challenging game play elements. This topic is for compiling a list of these gimmicks. For brainstorming purposes and maybe whatever other purpose someone can find in it. Maybe someone wants to see if their new idea ha...

Re: Weird and crazy warping idea!

I disagree with requiring linking level events. Sure, you could make the player feel more accomplished by having that yellow switch be active forever, but it could also be more fun to find new and inventive ways to hide that switch/secret path and why can't stars be used to give that sense of world...

Re: Invisible Triggers?

I'm a little less knowledgeable than most of the others, but... you need to have an event trigger By an invisible (npc) that can move with layers. (I'm assuming you cant move npcs with events and layers according to the others? I figured you could?) Well, if it has to move in layers, maybe use a blo...

Re: Map error(s)

So what tips does anyone have to avoid this dilemma? @psuedo dino - is making the world map last to avoid this problem, as a preference, or both? I'm quite partial yo making the world map first. Actually in almost every creative activity I like to try and picture the finished piece then whittle it d...

You can also check auto start for the first level if you don't want them to start in the world map.

Re: Warping questions, taking it to another level.

@rudeguy07 - thanks, I had a feeling I was over thinking it. Although my original version could work to my advantage, at least to keep things simpler, and to help with the section limit. Which, I plan to just create new "sections" within existing sections that would share the same bg/music where you...

Re: Warping questions, taking it to another level.

Would someone mind giving me a brief explanation of how to do that? Just to clarify, I'm looking to have certain larger levels with multiple entrances from the world map. One example would be Toad Town. Let's say on the world map it's represented by the red mushroom level sprite. Then I'd like to ha...

Re: Warping questions, taking it to another level.

Thank you, that clears up that.
Now all I really need to know is if I can do that with world levels, basically having multiple entrances from the world to a particular level.

Warping questions, taking it to another level.

Alright I know most of everything there is to know about warping within a level. I also could probably make the world level to world level warp work (inserting the x, y of the destination which it gives when placing). But I can't find any information on the level to level warps (changing levels with...

Re: Custom SMB3 King Bill V2

Even if its not indestructible, can't I mess around with the npc codes to change that? If not, theyres still layer/event methods to make a boss battle better. I'm probably going to use this. I like the lighting you did on the face especially.

Re: Boo Wheel

Does this last method involve changing the fireball sprite to a boo sprite? I figured the boo wheel wouldn't be possible without hours of tweaking or luna.

Thanks again. I realized I can reference most of this via test settings in the level editor. But now I have a notepad file with all of my episode info so again thank you it was very helpful.

I thank you greatly for taking the time to answer this. Just what I needed! This info will be very useful as I plan on making an episode where all 5 characters are used so again thank you.

Character Specifics?

With regards of course to Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, and Link. What game play elements separate them. I know that only Mario and Luigi may ride any Yoshi. I am somewhat certain that Luigi jumps one block higher than the others. I haven't tested to be sure, but hopefully Peach can use the float effec...

The Delta Interface (Ghost Jove 2014)

So I made a hip hop mixtape free for promotional uses over a year ago. Quite different from what youre probably used to and definitely something I hold dear. I'm currently in brainstorming for the next one which will be a legitimate release with atleast one official video courtesy of a local music c...

Re: How to SMBX

Sorry if this was answered or not, and I feel if it isn't mentioned here it should be.
What gfx from the level and world editors can you make custom?

I specifically just need to know about the world editor cgfx options but any knowledge of limititations would be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Re: New Great Castle Adventure!

This will be the first attempt at playing an episode from the forum. It looks awesome and I'm excited to play it after work (probably until work the next day or I beat it.)
After playing the first world, I will post a quite in depth review of it.
