SMBX 1.4.3 uses png images. To convert it, just use paint.net (add the image into it and then save as png instead of gif). Yes. Problem with 1.4.3.

I have a problem with 1.4.3. It seems that 1.4.3 SMBX is being whiny and doesn't seem to want to use GIFs. I can't use a GIF to PNG converter either, since whenever i try to convert a playable, It has this weird graphical effect which doesn't look nice at all. Help?

I don't know what you mean by officially, but it's possible. For 2.0, you'd have to code it through LunaLua. At this point, it would be easiest to code it over another power-up (get rid of all of the effects of the original power-up and work with that player state) or the much more difficult way (i...
