Re: True 8-bit graphics and music

They have 8-bit depth, but can take colors from 24-bit RGB color space just to clarify. What you're talking about has nothing to do with the NES limitations people usually think about. 16-bit and 24-bit depth is typically an absolute color value system. But it makes very little sense to use absolut...

Re: True 8-bit graphics and music

If you want to understand how meaningless it is to say that an image is 8-bit, consider this: every GIF image or animation is by definition 8-bit. GIF doesn't support 16-bit or 24-bit depth. Keep in mind, with 8 bits, you can support 256 colors. That's not an especially low limitation until you get ...

Re: Dubbed vs Subbed Anime?

I personally agreed that the DIC dub of Sailor Moon is miles better than the Nicktoons dub of Dragon Ball Z Kai.
Who are you agreeing with? That's the opposite of what I said about these dubs.

Re: Dubbed vs Subbed Anime?

Well, the only English re-dub I've seen that I thought was good was Dragon Ball Kai (at least what I saw of it when it was airing on Nicktoons), but honestly the quality of the voice acting doesn't bother me as much as the other stuff. Regarding Sailor Moon, there are things that bother me about its...

Re: Dubbed vs Subbed Anime?

I don't bother with re-dubs. They're rarely as good as the original voices, they come much later, and I don't need them (especially with Japanese cartoons where I can sort of understand what's being said anyway). This doesn't just apply to Japanese cartoons. I watched Code Lyoko in English, but that...

Re: Super Mario Run

Dedicated video game "consoles" are going to be a thing of the past before long (they're already obsolete and have been for over a decade), leaving all video game developers developing for general-purpose PCs. I think these games for Android and iOS are a sign that at least some Nintendo executives ...

Re: What do you think about emulation?

Hey, I never said copyright was just. Quite the opposite. :) You can legally rip the contents of a cartridge as long as it's an archival copy (so... you can't legally actually use it unless the original copy gets destroyed), and if there's some sort of DRM stopping you from making copies, breaking t...

Re: What do you think about emulation?

You probably have to rip the ROMs off of the original cartridges; I'm sure there must be some sort of DRM to prevent you from finding a copy of the ROMs used in Virtual Console. Some sort of specialized hardware is needed to do this.

Re: YOU KNOW WHAT PISSES ME OFF?

"Why do these things need programs in order to be opened" How else would you do that? I don't know, whoever thought of this type of file thought of it like if there is some private stuff in each rar file, like instead of being this whole download another thing to get the archive opening program oth...

Re: What do you think about emulation?

Other than tool-assisted speedruns, emulation is a cumbersome workaround to loss of compatibility caused by use of Assembly, a program only existing in binary form, or both. It should be a last resort; if you can compile a native binary for your current system, that's what you should do for the best...

Okay, there are 3 female enemies. That doesn't change my point. You really believe this is a problem, don't you? I mean, I do appreciate when I can play as a woman. But it's such a minor thing, it's not going to influence whether or not I enjoy the game one bit. And I couldn't care less what ...

Re: The 'Damsel in Distress' Discourse

Personally, I'm more concerned about the blatant turtlism presented in all the Mario games by portraying turtles as bad guys. I mean, come on, Nintendo! It's 2016! You need to give equal representation for every possible demographic in every group, occupation, and situation, or it's perpetuating big...

Re: "Good" Hacking and "Bad" Hacking

Confusion may arise because the word "hacking" has been associated with breaking security (cracking). But modifying a binary to change its behavior is not cracking. It's hacking in the original sense of the word, which is more like "playful cleverness". There's nothing wrong with that, and it's not ...

Nintendo owns Super Mario, Pokemon, LoZ, and all the rest and when someone makes a fan game without Nintendo's permission, that game will be competing against Nintendo's games When someone makes or distributes any game, that game will be competing against Nintendo's games. Re: Copyright Protection & Trademarks

Nintendo is a corporation and in order for a corporation to stay alive it needs a healthy profit margin. Fan works are almost universally, though unintentionally, in competition with the source material. Why buy Mario Maker when you can play SMBX w/ Lua Lua y'know? This is a total nonsense argument...

No law requires you to enforce any copyright monopoly, nor does any law penalize any copyright holder for not taking action against copyright infring...

Re: Copyright Protection & Trademarks

Content ID is not a part of copyright. It's an entirely voluntary addition by Google. The only thing a video sharing site like YouTube is requried by U.S. copyright law to do is either accept responsibility for any copyright infringement or censor any user-created content that another person claims ...
