Re: Copyright Protection & Trademarks

Eh, copyleft is important as long as we have copyright, but I think we would all be better off without copyright, even though it means the loss of copyleft. (This is one of the many, many things I disagree with RMS on.) So I don't know if I myself would call myself a fan of it. It's more like a nece...

Re: Copyright Protection & Trademarks

I know the difference between copyrights and patents. Typically, when someone issued a patent for their idea, and when it came to light (and was actually created), the existence of that item was copyrighted. What, the description of the patent? I guess that might be copyrighted, but this has absolu...

Re: Copyright Protection & Trademarks

Copyrights were fairly useful back when we still had major inventors and patents were still being tossed around (see: the 40's), but since we've established, created, and worked our way to create a considerably large amount of products for public consumerism, it's way too easy for somebody to take ...

Re: Copyright Protection & Trademarks

My position on copyright is pretty simple: it's unjust and should be abolished. Automatic copyright (as required by the Berne Convention) is even worse. Copyright that lasts until 50 years after the author's death (also required by the Berne Convension) is even worse. I don't think a monetary incent...

Re: Easiest video game levels

Sorry, I didn't see that request. But what does it mean to be an "official video game"? "Official" according to whom? Does that exclude all indie games? All non-commercial games? All games Nintendo didn't publish? The thing is, anyone can make a game. Cartoon Network used to have a Shockwave game ca...

Re: Easiest video game levels

The easiest video game level is the one I made as a child in Lode Runner (several times...) where you would just fall straight into an exit. Absolutely impossible to lose, and doesn't even require a single key press. I don't think you can get easier than that.

Really cool modular, "Earth-friendly" computer (EOMA68)

This is a crowdfunding campaign that is ongoing, with 3 more weeks to go: https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68/micro-desktop This video is also worth watching: https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68/micro-desktop/updates/hope-2016 It's for EOMA68, a standard for more modular, "Earth-friendly" computers. Re: Your favorite SNES title

I stopped playing proprietary software games (that I was aware of) a couple of years ago, and for the most part, I haven't missed them. But there is one major exception: Super Metroid. That's either my favorite or second game overall (the other contender being The Ur-Quan Masters). I definitely want...

Even if that's true (it really isn't, though this isn't new to Windows 10), it doesn't make it right for Microsoft to assert power over users and force them to install it. (Further, it's unjust that Windows gives Microsoft that power to begin with.)

Re: The NES is coming back.

And this thing is almost certainly running an emulator. Why would they waste money actually trying to replicate the NES hardware when it's possible to get literally any SoC made for things like tablets and phones and slap an NES emulator on it, and no one will notice because NES emulation was perfe...

Re: The NES is coming back.

I do find it rather odd that people are constantly saying that this is a "great deal" by coparing it to Virtual Console and buying old cartridges, completely ignoring the elephant in the room: illegal it may be, but you can get these games and thousands more off the Internet without paying a cent, a...

Re: Hate towards any race? Why you need to hate?

If you go looking for racists, you're going to find racists, and then you're also going to see people who are not racist at all as racists. Confirmation bias. I have never been personally a witness to any true racism. Any racism I have seen was indirect, e.g. in a news report about it, and always ve...

Eh, I guess that one Powerpuff Girls Shockwave game where all you do is click on meat, bugs, and comets which can't even kill you, then click on Fuzzy, Roach Coach, and Him a few times? I don't know, there are tons of crappy games like that where no effort was put into them; it's hard to pick one ou...

Re: Favourite Games With Level Editors?

That's Lode Runner... Lode Runner: The Legend Returns used to be my favorite (though it didn't have much competition; the only other one I knew of was The Incredible Machine), but now... I'm not sure. I don't tend to use level editors anymore since I can develop whole new games and that's usually mo...

Hm, unfortunately, this doesn't work in Wine very well at all; none of those menus show up for more than a brief moment, and I don't know what else I may be missing. Would I be right to assume that you're using Construct Classic? Who knows, maybe recompiling Construct with MinGW would yield better r...

Re: Indie Games Thread

Dang, I have a bias since I'm an indie game developer myself, and I try to make my games good, so of course some of my favorites are ones I've made. Namely, ReTux. Also, they're all libre, so I've contributed to some games I really like. But some of my favorite indie games at least primarily not by ...
