Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

In answer to your first question: You can store the x position of your boss in a variable, which you update at the end of your onTick. Then, you can use boss.x - xposition to get the difference between your boss' position since it last moved. Using this, you can construct a kind of speed value. As f...

Didn't know about that. I presume this returns the rng object and that object can then be used just like the library itself? myRngObject.irandomEntry, for example.
Yep. It's a useful feature.

Re: tileRandomizer.lua - Rudimentary aestheticizer

Seed, you ask? Oh yeah. This library uses a standalone instance of rng.lua to ensure your level doesn't magically look different on repeat playthroughs. This is unnecessary. The version of RNG.lua that exists in the maglx3 build lets you generate RNG objects for precisely this purpose. You don't ev...

He can still change the hardcoded graphics but nothing major.
Nope. You can't do that in 1.3. That's why they're called "hardcoded". The ability to change them was added in SMBX2.

You'd need to download SMBX2 to do this. You can get it from here: http://codehaus.moe

Re: New Project Starting, need advice on version.

Wow huge response thank you :D , it appears most are leaning toward 2.0 beta 3. Most are suggesting SMBX2 MAGLX3 build, which is NOT the same as SMBX2 beta 3. SMBX2 beta 3 is older, and SMBX2 MAGLX3 has more content. Either way, you shouldn't need to modify the install at all to make this now, sinc...

Cool, i didn't know this was a thing, but is it possible to unzoom the camera by changing the value?
Of course it is. Setting the zoom level to 1 or nil will return it to default zoom.

Re: making the camera smaller

You can do this via Lua, by simply creating your Lua file, loading handycam, and setting the zoom level:

Code: Select all

local handycam = require("handycam")
handycam[1].zoom =  1.5625
(1.5625 will zoom the camera in to exactly match the SMW camera)

That's a simple warning, it can happen if your npc.txt file has a blank line. It won't stop anything from working, though, and it will only appear when testing in the editor.

Make sure you click the "Save" button before exiting that screen, otherwise it'll just revert to default.

It's not the same as in 1.3, actually. https://i.imgur.com/WOkNdfW.png Click this button in the launcher, and that will take you to this screen: https://i.imgur.com/AMP1k7z.png From there, check the "Joystick" box, and configure it by clicking one of the button labels and hitting the button on your ...

Where did you find that code? The findnpcs function hasn't been used for literally years. NPC.get is what's used these days. Also the PGE wiki has a list of the memory locations and what they do.

Re: Foreground BGO z-layer + z-offset only working in editor

Use background-n.txt files. The handbook has more information, including pointing out that the menu you're attempting is not currently supported. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uOdJ_IUwtQCon_ncPTp-HVUvFErS8Ue-p6bF3_vPFaA/edit# I would point out that you need to be using SMBX2 MaGLX3 for this, ...

Custom map music has never worked in SMBX2. I'm not sure why the regular music doesn't seem to be though.

Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

Don't know if it was mentioned before, but I just found an issue with big switches (diamond, clubs, spades, hearts). When you finish that switch level, it is marked on the map as cleared and the first level on the map you enter will have the blocks changed, as intended, but when you leave that leve...

Re: customblockanim.lua - Cause we got no block.txt at the moment

Why exactly is this drawing the blocks manually? That has a bunch of limitations (such as blocking access to Graphics.sprites). Why doesn't it use the block animation memory locations like the animated blocks in basegame do? (With the exception of the TNT block, which does need to draw itself manual...

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

If you want an entirely custom character, you should make it over one of the base 5. Otherwise you're competing with a bunch of extra Lua and it's just making things hard for yourself. Klonoa, for example, is based on Toad.

Re: nullifier.lua - Un-draw the environment

We can do the SMW poison bubble shader now where it cuts through the scenery! good Not with nullifier! Nullifier just does squares. Circles are a bit more tricky. It could easily be adapted to use a shader that cuts out a circle. Could also take a look at Sprite.circle, since that generates UVs for...

Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

As someone who's math skills aren't really the best, could I maybe have an example please? Googling "Parabolic func Enjl meant "parametric" functions, not parabolic. It basically means a function that instead of being written like: y = f(x), it's written x = f(t), y = g(t). Essentially, you want to...
