Where did you find that code? The findnpcs function hasn't been used for literally years. NPC.get is what's used these days. Also the PGE wiki has a list of the memory locations and what they do.

Custom map music has never worked in SMBX2. I'm not sure why the regular music doesn't seem to be though.

Why exactly is this drawing the blocks manually? That has a bunch of limitations (such as blocking access to Graphics.sprites). Why doesn't it use the block animation memory locations like the animated blocks in basegame do? (With the exception of the TNT block, which does need to draw itself manual...

If you want an entirely custom character, you should make it over one of the base 5. Otherwise you're competing with a bunch of extra Lua and it's just making things hard for yourself. Klonoa, for example, is based on Toad.

That sounds like your graphics drivers are not up to date. Try and update the drivers for your graphics card.
