Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

While this makes the player invisible, I'm trying to make it so BGOs are layered in front of the player without using foreground sprites. As if the player is behind them. Please read what we said carefully . We did not just tell you to set the player's animation frame, but to also use player:render...

Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

player:render redraws the player. Take a look at classexpander.lua to see how it works. On top of redrawing the player, of course, you need to set the player's animation frame (offset 0x114) to -50 * player.direction so that he becomes invisible as far as the game's render loop is concerned. Note t...

Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

That has been fixed internally, but was an oversight in the MAGLX3 build unfortunately.

As Enjl said - please do not modify basegame by sticking files in there. It's just opening a whole can of worms that's not a good idea to get into.

Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

Block ini files only affect the editor, they don't change anything in the game itself.

Re: my gfx are broken

That's not helpful.

I'd suggest you give some more detail, including screenshots of your level folder and showing screenshots of what you're seeing. Also, please include which version of the engine you're running, as that can make a big difference.

Re: SMBX2 MAGLX3 Release - Feedback, Questions and Bugs here!

I have a suggestion for the SMBX Challenge. If possible, make the challenge display the name of the level as you would see it on the world map. For example, instead of level1, it could display "A Very Easy Level" (if that was the name of level1). That is exactly what it does if a level name is avai...

Re: Custom background issue

Rather than guessing, perhaps worth pointing out that the particular background you're using uses two background2-n.png files, in order to get the parallax effect, so you need to replace both. Or use a background2-n.ini file.

Re: I'm confused :/

SMBX 38A (sometimes called 1.4) is not truly SMBX. It's a completely different engine made to look superficially similar.

SMBX2, on the other hand, is a continuation project of the original SMBX made by Redigit, which is still ongoing and you can download from http://codehaus.moe.

SMBX2 MAGLX3 is the most recent version, so I'd suggest trying that out. There's a lot more stuff to work with, too.

I believe that's a bug in SMBX 1.3. Have you tried SMBX2 to see if that can open them?

Re: Why does my custom background not work?

I guess, even though the .ini file is created automatically. It's not. It's only created if you hit the pencil in the editor - which is the "edit background ini" button. That button creates a new ini file and opens it for editing. You don't need to press that to use simple custom background graphics.

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

Soooo I haven't dabbled in lua before. Heard a bunch about it, saw some neat stuff in a previous contest... and in light of recent going-ons I was curious if lua could do a thing, that thing being modifications to the music packaged with the engine? Now I watched Enjl's tutorial on music related bi...

Re: Why does my custom background not work?

Why would you want to use small resolution images for your background? Because maybe you want to tile it? Also, there was a problem where a custom background I wanted to use not properly showing up within the editor until a completely deleted the .ini file. That was because you had an empty .ini fi...

Backgrounds should be at least 800x600 (or at least the size of the original, whichever is smaller) cause SMBX really doesn't like small backgrounds
Though if you use SMBX2 and a custom background ini file, you can use smaller images no problem.

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

I used the BG Mechanic you showed in the tutrorial and it worked fine, but obviously only at her spawn point, so I wondered if it is possible to make the light follow her. https://i.postimg.cc/xNvjS2m9/bandicam-2019-05-19-18-32-49-510.jpg This is how the lua looks currently if necessary. https://i....

Re: Need help with lua? - LunaLua General Help

The field doesn't work cause you set the shader and uniforms to an empty shader. The handbook details the default properties for these fields so if you don't wanna overwrite any you dont need to specify them at all. It's as Enjl says. You should also probably just use darkness.addLight , since that...

Re: Why does my custom background not work?

Not sure what's up here but you should probably be using SMBX2, since it's a lot more stable and makes things like graphics replacements and background customisability much easier.

Ah. When you create a background2-#.ini file, it'll by default just be a black background, which you can then add things to using the config. Glad you got it fixed.

Another point of note is that pairs is orders of magnitude slower than ipairs. If you're just looping over a list, always use ipairs.
