When I run the script on PlayOnLinux I get this error...

Have you installed the program to the default location?

Okay, since I forcedly applied that dumb LunaLoader (because "avoiding antivirus's false alerts"), SMBX no more launching.
So, Hexed version is REQUIRED to be working under Wine. LunaLoader is crashful under Wine. Use A2MBXT build which will work correctly

Is there a way to run 2.0 on Mac? I don't really need it since I have bootcamp running on mine, but it would still be nice to have.

I don't believe it's available yet, but Axiom has posted screenshots of 2.0 on Mac testing. I wouldn't be surprised if it was held off until the 2.0 full release to avoid the need for constant updates.

right here, actually. you should be able to swap the files for the newer version if you really want to.

I finally gave the SMBX2 Beta 3 DMG that you posted a try, Axiom, and am having major issues when running many episodes, including litchh's SKL Mario Classic Adventure, Return to Dinosaur Land, and SMBX Contest Greatest Hits. When launching one of these episodes, the SMBX loading screen (Wii <3 Nintendo and so on) will appear as usual but when it finishes, what I believe to be the SMBX2 character demo stage hub music plays for a split second, then Mario is sent either to a graphicless version of the intro stage (used on the title screen when you save and quit) or to a black screen where he is trapped in the bottom right, which I think occurs when no start point is defined for Mario? I have a video of the second example here:

This video was taken while attempting to launch Return to Dinosaur Land (the version included with SMBX2 Beta 3), which explains why Mario is using the SMW-styled graphics seen in the video.

When attempting to save and quit to the title screen from one of these situations, the game crashes with the following error message for some episodes, such as the SMBX Contest Greatest Hits (this one was taken while running SMBX Contest Greatest Hits):

Episodes other than these seem to work properly, although there are semi-frequent crash errors when opening certain levels, which also occurs with the original 1.3.0.2 Wineskin package. I seriously doubt it's a normal issue with these episodes (or levels) though, since all but SKL Mario Classic Adventure are included with SMBX2.

I'm running Mac OS Sierra, version 10.12.6, by the way.

I have tried to use the play on linux method and am receiving the following error.

Error in POL_Shortcut
Binary not found: smbx.exe
Have you installed the program to the default location?

I have smbx.exe installed, but I do not know where the default location is supposed to be

The POL file referred in main thread is broken and buggy (it has invalid link, therefore doesn't auto-downloads the archive with SMBX, therfore is no smbx.exe in your bottle),

I don't think that must be a trouble where you running a stuff (Linux or Mac), try out my POL file from scratch (nuke existing bottle which is broken first). As my PlayOnLinux is installed from the repository than downloaded from official site, you must have newer version than me. At me that works perfectly, you must don't have troubles on your side.

Pardon me for asking, but SMBX mac automatically updates or you have to find a version that is 1.4.4?

No any auto-updates, you must install any updates or different versions manually.
I suggesting you to don't mix LunaLua-SMBX and SMBX-38A, but you can put SMBX-38A into separate folder of existing bottle and create a separated shortcut for it.

Ok, then where is the 1.4.4 Mac Guide on How-to Install?

It's very easy:
- Install LunaLua-based bottle (Use fixed script http://wohlsoft.ru/LunaLua/smbx.pol because that one published by Axiom contains a typo and is invalid)
- Open the folder where C drive of that bottle
- Unpack SMBX-38A's archive into it (into own folder, for example, SMBX38A, but don't replace old SMBX's folder!)
- In PlayOnMac open the settings of bottle, choose adding of a shortcut, choose smbx.exe from SMBX38A folder, and call shortcut as 'SMBX 38A'
- Try to run it

Anyway, you asked a guide for SMBX38A installation on Mac, as it wasn't existed, I wrote it on a quick hand.
