[1.4.4] LayerClear Event, Ice flower bug? Help wanted.

Alright so, I was trying to make a boss fight for an episode I'm making right now which involves using the LayerClear Event on NPCs to summon more sets of NPCs as one set is defeated. I've come across a weird bug, however, which makes the LayerClear Event start if one of the enemies is defeated while in an ice block.

When the enemies are defeated normally (with jumps, fireballs, etc.) everything works just fine. But, as mentioned before, defeating at least one of them while they are in an ice block still spawns in the next NPC.

The reason why I need help with this is because of how the main power-up of my level is the ice flower and I don't really intend on changing it :? .

I am using 1.4.4 but I also don't know if this same thing occurs in 1.3/2.0. Any help would be much appreciated.

I just tested, this isn't present in 1.3.0.1 or 2.0

So its definitely a 1.4.4 thing but does anyone at least know a way to work around it?

Having a "clear enemies" event with ice flowers around is generally iffy. I remember that such an event was not triggered when two frozen enemies were smashed at each other.

Still using the legacy editor? Get SMBX2 and PGE, it will improve your experience significantly. Here's why.

I am using it. I've put it on all the NPCs so that defeating them all in any order would lead to the reward spawning.

Yes, all of the enemies are in the same layer. The reward, however, is in a different layer so that I can spawn it in.

Didn't want to send the actual level because of spoilers for my episode, its literally the exact same problem though. At this point, I'm just thinking about forcing the player to have a fire flower instead...
