Sinterklaas (mini-episode)

Hello people.

About two years ago I made this level/mini-episode about something that is celebrated in the Netherlands: Sinterklaas.
Now I decided to post it here.

It was made in SMBX 1.3.0.1. so also compatible with 2.0.
Playable character is Mario.
The language used in the game is not Dutch but just English.
There are three levels that together form one level, because the first and second level end with a warp that sends you directly to the next level. Saving is not possible.
If you find any bugs, please tell me.

Any suggestions for a better name for the level are welcome.

Story
Spoiler: show
Sinterklaas is kidnapped and Plumber Pete needs to save him quickly, because it is almost Sinterklaas' birthday (5 december). If you want to understand the whole story while playing and you don't know much about Sinterklaas, it might be a good idea to search some background information about Sinterklaas on the internet.

Please post episode topics in the episodes forum and not the levels forum.

Oh sorry, I didn't know if I should call it a level or a mini-episode actually, so I was doubting what forum it to post on and apparently chose the wrong one.

How many levels are there in fact? Do you enter them from a hub?

Oh sorry I probably deleted that information from the OP. It's in fact one level parted into 3 level files to make more checkpoints, but there is no hub or something and saving is not possible. That was also one of the reasons I first posted this as a level.

I like how you used background graphics from Streets of Rage on the Genesis for some of your levels, but noticed the "Sinterklaas" sprite looks like either a). a 8-bit sprite, or b). something you made in MS Paint.

This is nowhere necessary. SMBX2PAL has multipoints.

So yeah that in fact should be in Levels

Indeed I used MS Paint for that sprite. Shame on me...

Don't say that dude, I used to make sprites using MS Paint in the past*. Just keep trying! :)

*Mostly custom 8-bit sprites, but you know what I mean!

please don't ignore this message

(also I think it would have made more sense to post this around Christmas time anyway)

I think it will be hard and a lot of work to put the three levels into one level. Or is there a simple way to do that?

Maybe I should have posted it later yeah. Maybe it should be tested a bit first too, as it is seen as an episode now.

Can this still be moved to the projects forum?

First of all get SMBX2PAL. The editor allows you to copy sections even across different levels. I think you only have to redo the warps.

and when you're done we can just ask staff to move it back to Levels

Maybe I will try this.

The thing is, I am still not sure if it is more a level or a mini-episode. I could also make it possible to save between the levels, which would probably be less work than redoing the warps and that stuff. Then it would be more like an episode. I think I will just wait till people play this so they can say what it is like.

WOW no that is certainly not supposed to happen. I think I know what is going wrong, I will try to fix this.

EDIT: download link updated now. I hope this solves your problem.

I have added a poll now. Feel free to give your opinion if you have played the mini-episode.

The poll should have an "All hail the pope" option.

I played an bit of it, and I was an bit confused as to what I was meant to do at first, but it's okay at most.

I liked the idea of throwing presents at the chimney's in an way to get to the next area, but you could have added an few more challenging places which required more platforming to get up, like maybe jumping from lamppost to lamppost to get to an rooftop.

The chase when the hole is blown in the ship is also an cool idea, but I didn't know where I was meant to go, and died several times in the process.

also, the pope and present sprites look pretty 6/8-bit, which I'm not saying is bad, but they could do with some shading.

Overrall, for what I played, I would give it an 4.5/10.

until then, All hail the pope!

It's been a while since I released this mini-episode, and considering it's just been 5 december I wonder, has anyone completed it yet?
