Sleep

Postby GhostHawk » Sat Aug 04, 2018 4:48 pm

This thread is about sleep and health. How many hours do you get per night? What are your hours? Do you have any bedtime and waking routines?

I get between 8-10 hours per night between 10:30pm - 8am give or take.

I sleep for 8 hours everyday, but sometimes I sleep much more because I couldn't sleep very well, and that happens me often

About 6 hours when I have uni the day after, but 8 or more whenever I get the chance otherwise. If I'm particularly drained on a weekend I just throw all caution to the wind and sleep for 10 or 11.

I used to sleep from 19:00 til 03:00, but I started getting in trouble for going to sleep too early. I usually get 10-12 hours, but got 14 hours last night. (from 22:00 to 12:00)

I've switched from bed at 4am, and waking up at 2 to 3pm and I don't feel as tired after waking up and generally have more energy. Have any of you had similar experiences after getting off a bad cycle?

I've read that quality of sleep depends on sleep cycles. The cycles takes 1h and half to complete, then the best time to sleep is 7h 30m or 9h but not 8h, however the time the cycles takes to complete variates with the person. I haven't followed my horaries close enough so I can confirm the efectiveness of this, but I thought it was still worth to share.

The last weekend my sleep times were screwed up, they were flipped around 10h. It sucked having sleep times like vampire but when I woke up I had more energy.
Right now I have decent sleep times (going to bed at 9pm and getting up around 7am) 10h of sleep, I hope I can keep this cycle for a while.

When I have school, I sleep around 6h, from 12-1AM to 6:30AM - I guess that isn't very healthy but eh.
Otherwise I sleep from 1-2AM to 11-12AM, so around 10h.

Ever since graduating high school this past summer my sleep schedule has gone all outta wack. I used to fall asleep 10 or 11pm and wake up around 7-9. Now I'm usually falling asleep past midnight and I wake up anywhere between 6-10am.

I've got college coming up soon and I want to be able to get some consistent sleep. I also have a lot less energy during the day. Anyone have tips to go about fixing this?

Try to get into a consistent routine of going to bed a certain time and waking up no later than a certain time (if you wake up earlier you can either just lie in bed and continue to rest and might even go back to sleep, or if you've had a lazy day the previous day, just get up because you maybe have just had enough rest). Also if you're not getting into a deep sleep make sure that you're not consuming anything with high natural or artificial sugar content, drinking caffeinated beverages, within an hour or more before you want to sleep and not using any electronic devices within 30 minutes to an hour before you want to go to sleep. I'd suggest having not a lot of energy is likely due to not getting into a deep sleep. Also if you do any kind of exercise within a short time of getting up (even just like running up and down a flight of stairs 5-10 times, doing some push-ups, etc.) you'll probably kick start your day and find you have a lot more energy. Make sure you also get out of bed right when your alarm goes off and don't just lie around for a while after even if you think you're well awake. Also check out this chart to make sure you're getting an appropriate amount of sleep for your age:
https://sleepfoundation.org/how-sleep-w ... eally-need.

Personally I always ensure that I get at least 7.5 hours of sleep (since this is the number teens to young adults need for ideal brain function, you'll actually lose critical thinking and problem solving abilities if you drop below that), though I try to get ~9-10 on a daily basis (10:30-6:25 at minimum) which really just depends on when I'm working too (which time I get up)

Usually, i go to bed at 10:00-11:00PM, and wake up at ~7AM (on school days)
Other times i go at 10:30-11:30PM, and wake up at 10AM (on weekends or non-school days)
Usually i don't get to go to sleep immediately though so i'm looking at about 8 hours sleep on school days and 10 on other days.

Is there a maximum amount of time that one should be sleeping for?

It depends on your age, but 8-11 hours should be the target range. Anything more than 11 starts to run into problems with too much sleep just like too little sleep.

For some reason, I have sleeping problems until 2 or 3, and wake up at 10. I really need help especially because I have school next month.
krazykats advice: show
If you don't want to be suspicious, then you want to act like you're trying to help the town. Be constructive towards the game, share suspicions that aren't blatantly disprovable, cast lynch votes that aren't just a bandwagon vote with no explanation (we're all guilty of this one), ask people questions about their thoughts on things.

You don't want to post super often, but when you do post you want it to have content and not just fluff. Don't be afraid to share your thoughts, but also use your brain before you throw suspicions out there. I say this because we mislynched Taycamgame last game because he threw out a suspicion against me that literally made no sense in the context of the game. If he hadn't committed that brain fart, we would've been more likely to lynch one of the actual bad guys that day and not just a townie who didn't think before they spoke.

Does anyone use those color temperature tools to make your screen produce less blue light? Has it helped at all?

Or you can just avoid screens entirely 30-60+ minutes before sleeping

That's recommended for better sleep quality, but the idea behind those tools is for earlier in the evening where the sun is still up your screen should have a similar color warmth as the sun set rather than mid-day all day and night to also help.
