The virus is going down in many countries including Germany, France, Italy and Spain and Trump has said plans to reopen the country in 4 phases.

Having said that the virus finally came to my job here in Iowa last weekend. We are at 7 cases but as the news recently reported my employer won't release a official number and they employ over 1,000 people. Iowa was later than most states to get the virus and here it's on the rise with that big outbreak at the Tyson plant. Several meat plants have shut down and meat shortages are possible soon.
I want to say thank you to God for every day he gives me on this planet and for the chance to be in a better place when I die.

Except if there's still 2000 or 3000 new infected per day in Germany alone (and several hundred deaths), you can't say at all that it's going down.

Governments have already underestimated the virus once, and now they're doing it all the way again.

I got some good news, and some bad news on the COVID-19:

  • Good News: The virus might go away soon if we're lucky.

  • Bad News: Afaik from my mother, the virus will strike back in the Autumn this year

It won't go away "anytime soon". Forget about that. Medicines and vaccines take their time; developping them is one thing, approving them and mass-producing them is another.

Doubling rates are not very expressive once every country reached 100,000s of infected, the reproduction rate is what matters now. If you just let people gather together in ANY way (say, by opening a few shops), it rises instantly. If it doesn't go below 1, it will destroy your health system within a few months.

In Germany there's now a global mask requirement in shops and public transport. Took us long enough, eh?

I will be getting tested soon as I may have been exposed but I honestly think I am fine. Me getting tested is mandatory by my job.

Many meat plants are having outbreaks and I read many pigs on over crowded farms may soon have to be killed and put into dump sites. I was shocked to read 100,000 pigs should be killed for food production daily. That's sad. Farmers are saying they can't keep all of the pigs they are getting.

Get ready for a meat shortage here in America.

It is a very bad thing to happen this way. A food shortage is looming let alone the UN report saying 260 million people could face starvation.

I love to eat meat but hate to kill animals so my feelings are mixed. As areo said a lot of people could starve but meat is not the only thing we can eat.

My biggest issue is the farmers just killing pigs to make room for other pigs. They were going to be killed anyways but still it makes you realize how ugly the entire thing is.

My job has a covid outbreak. I get tested Saturday. This will be interesting.

I read a bit about this. Some points/claims (take with a grain of salt if need be):

- plenty of US people finance things like cars, house etc. on the nod and have little to no saved money, meaning they're not prepared for exceptional situations
- jobs disappear and financial hardships can't be compensated; also things like health insurances are often tied 1:1 to jobs
- social inequality and excessive national debt are big problems

Not really? As far as i know, the Virus will not be away soon and there is no vaccine for it so it will just keep on coming back. And also if there would be a vaccine in the future, a lot of people won't take it probably cause they say stuff like vaccine kills you.

Söders is doing a pretty good Job (Heck even Merkel is doing good stuff now, despite all the things that happened within CDU/CSU) with this Situation right now, I'm glad also that they cancelled the Oktoberfest this year because of the whole Situation.

Sure now there will be loss at selling, but human lives are more valuable than selling Beer at a horrendous price imo.

Meanwhile certain Politicians in Germany are not doing so great right now, and I'm waiting for my break to end and see how many people will actually wear a mask now in shops and public transport, because I'm pretty sure there still will be a lot of people who don't care about bringing others into danger.

courtesy by satire magazine Extra3:
"ten sentences that were completely unimaginable before Corona"

10: "I daily attend a virologist's podcast"
9: "Hey kids, disinfect your hands, it's lunch time!"
8: "Of course I know where Heinsberg is"
7: "I didn't pass the doorkeeper at [insert discounter chain]"
6: "My parent's didn't allow me to visit them for Easter"
5: "Maaan I wanna go to the office again!"
4: "Our government is great! They allow us to walk in the park!"
3: "There's three people, I call the police"
2: "lamb chop with Altländer asparagus and duchess potatoes TO GO please"
1: "I could see Söder becoming chancellor"

[on a serious note I agree with Idunn's post and that Söder makes the best decisions these days]

School already started in my region in Germany but a lot of the students I saw today didn't do much of social distancing and that really concerns me. Hopefully I get to survive the next few weeks.

Germany is also working towards a second wave. It's like people stopped realizing that the virus is still rampant.
