Has anyone ever played Newer SMBW?It's a hack of NSMBW for the Nintendo Wii,and it uses a custom engine, custom worldmap(which is awesome!)and many custom tilesets, enemies and brand-new music! It's really cool, and whilst it may be a little hard to setup and install for some people,I recommend doing so if you have the following:
Wii
SD Card
Legal NSMBW Disc
Basic Installation Skills
Whilst I'm talking about NSMBW Hacks,I might as well mention Reggie! Editor. It's a free editor for NSMBW,like SMBX,but a lot harder to undertstand(Warps,Events,Custom stuff is harder to understand).Check out some gameplay if you're interested, and be sure to use these links for more info.

Some Reggie! Editor screens.
NOTE- If you are planning on hacking your Wii,just be aware it is 100% safe and legal, and cannot harm your console so long as you use these^ links.
Enjoy!

This seems like a really well-made editor, based on the screenshots I've seen and the projects that have been made using it. Newer in particular is great, like you said. I haven't actually used it personally, but it seems a bit more intuitive and less technical than Lunar Magic (which probably means it isn't as powerful, I admit, and probably stems partly from the Wii's more accessible file structure compared to the SNES; Lunar Magic is great too).
I was really impressed about how fast this game was hacked, though; the first version of Reggie was released just a few days after NSMBW's release. That was super surprising, although not that much considering how widely modded the Wii is and was.

This is false; using tools like the Homebrew Channel is definitely illegal if you use it to obtain Wii ROMs, and at the very least it voids your warranty and you'll risk breaking your Wii.
Also, downloading ROMs in any context is illegal. It doesn't matter if you own the game, and it doesn't matter if the game is out of production. The only way to legally obtain a ROM is to dump it yourself.
All that being said, though, RVLution has done some pretty cool stuff with the Wii.

Well,I realize that using Homebrew to get ISO's is illegal,of course, but all I used it for was to install Riivolution, and then played Newer Super Mario Bros Wii.
Also, the Wii uses ISO's,not ROM files.

An ISO is an image of the Wii disc, as a ROM is an image of a cartridge/chip. I realize "Wii ROMs" was not the best way of putting it, but my point was that you're obtaining game images illegally.

Newer was not made from scratch. It's a hacked version of NSMBW.

It was still built off of NSMBW's resources, so its still a hack no matter how different it is.

However, using it via Riivolution is comparable to IPS patches for SMW: You still need the original ROM.

I don't know where you're getting "new engine" from - it was built from NSMBW.

Actually you should be able to use the official disc to play it.
