Looking for 3D Mario Editor!

Postby Corndog52 » Fri Oct 07, 2016 10:58 pm

For the longest time now, I've been searching for an editor for 3D Mario games. I know there are a few more private and laggy ones such as Whitehole, but I'm looking for something simple, like a SM64DS editor or something. Please tell me if you know of anything that's good on most computers, user-friendly (so I don't have to go to /r/eli5 or something), and is capable of running on an emulator for its system. It doesn't have to be a "canon" editor (like, uses everything from SM64DS etc.); it can be a fanmade editor (like SMBX).

TL;DR: I need a 3D SMBX.

You could try out Toad's Tool 64, a hacking tool for Super Mario 64.

It's really bad though. You can't add objects to levels or change them, or even add new levels.

EDIT: For now I'd be keeping my eye on this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wip-the-fou ... or.424001/

It would be cool to see some kind of Mario Maker game based off Super Mario 3D World for the Switch.

I've never seen a Mario Editor in 3D to actually do that (well except for SM64 but then that would call it a hack anyway). Maybe someone should make that to happen but who knows when it will appear since well, coding knowledge is a thing and such...

I have never seen any 3D mario level making tool aside from ROM hacking, so that might be your best option. You can of course keep searching and you may find a good tool eventually although I don't believe there any ones that actually exist.

You definitely can change objects - that's what it is, an object editor, which is one of the tools that is used to create custom Mario 64 levels. You're correct that the editor itself doesn't allow you to alter level geometry - to do that, you have to build the level geometry in a 3D drawing application like Sketchup and import it into the ROM.
