PROJECT SUNSHINE - A Mario Sunshine / 64 Engine

Hello everyone! This is a project of mine that I have started a few days ago in Unity. It's called Project Sunshine! It is meant to be an open-source engine meant for everyone to use, but at this time it is closed source while it is being worked on.

The Sunshine Engine will feature many aspects from Super Mario Sunshine, as well as some from Super Mario 64, but with Gamecube-esque graphics. Shine Sprites, Platforms-a-plenty, General Mario Enemies. I plan to add as much as I can.

Development started on January 09th, 2015. So far quite a bit has been done in this small amount of time. Let me share with you what has been done, and what is currently being worked on. I'll only be tackling small bits at a time to cause less confusion.

DONE
Spoiler: show
There is nothing 100% done.

CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS
Spoiler: show
• Movement - It's a bit finicky right now. Reworking the code.
• Hud - Some HUD elements are in already, but only a small amount actually works
• Death - Working on 'dying' in the engine.
• Health - Working on the health system.
NEEDS TO BE DONE
Spoiler: show
• Various amounts of stuff

I can't believe how much you've done in the last few days. It is incredible and I can see this having a lot of potential. I would definitely use the finished or stable product. It looks great so far Xerx and I hope you finish this. Best of luck!

Ooh, this is an official thing now! How exciting! Looks great, as the last few screenshots have. Like Squishy Rex said, this is moving impressively quickly. I'm really excited to see what will come out of this.

Certainly looks fascinating if I do say so myself. I don't mean to pin out the SM64HD guy, but this looks better to me.

I'm glad people are excited about this! Keeps me motivated. :D I fixed up the movement, and I'll be working on bellysliding and possibly walljumping. Possibly the health system too.

Would it be possible for you to make this into a 3D form of SMBX styled after SMS instead of SMB3? If you have plans for this to be simply an engine, I respect that, but I'd definitely consider it if I were you. After all, either way this is still a great thing.

I meant, will it turn out like SMBX with a level editor, or a normal engine?
Either way it's amazing, but which way is it really going at this point?

Ah, OK. I respect that.

Though, since it will be open source, someone could potentially add one.

It's made in Unity, and Unity has it's own interface to make levels in. You'd have to make the level objects yourself obviously.

You might wanna revamp the Animations (if you didnt planned that already : P) later thou.
But otherwise, its a pretty good start.

I thought so.
Anyways, are you going to try to remake the animations from 64/Sunshine or from other games like Super Mario Galaxy or 3D World.

Probably make them like Sunshine. I want this engine to feel as close as possible to Sunshine as I can code it.
