Do People still use SMBX 1.3?

Postby Aeroy » Fri Jul 28, 2017 8:38 pm

I haven't been around in a while to see. I'm currently running 1.3 on my Mac (using Wine) and I'm wondering if people are still using this version. It was a hassle to set up on Mac so I'm a little worried. Are people using 2.0? Or is it still acceptable to use 1.3?
Thanks :)
whoa i kinda suck

I mean, it's acceptable, but it's outdated at this point. If you can get 2.0 Beta 3 to work then that's the better version to use out of the two.

Yeah, people still use it. Though you're honestly better off using any later version than that.

Yes, some people still use it. In fact, i'm using this version to make my current project right now. :)

There is no "acceptable" version, just outdated and updated ones. You don't need to worry about using an outdated version, who cares if you use it? Who are they to judge you? Just use the version you're most confortable with, but don't be afraid to give other versions a go, maybe it will become your favorite!
So yeah, there are lots of versions out there, so try then out and see which of them you like the most!

I'm still using 1.3.0.1 because LunaTester doesn't work for me.

My first version was 1.2.2, but I couldn't create anything because I always had the Overflow error, so my first episode was really shitty. Then I updated to 1.3, and I began a new episode (not so cool), but before finishing it I discovered Mario Builder, so I abandoned SMBX. When I got a new computer, I couldn't play SMBX because my new computer loaded .mp3 sounds slow. So I discovered that the 1.4 version was finally released (but unofficial), I had not lag problems but the physics were really bad and I couldn't play a lot of old episodes. So I switched to 1.3.0.2 (with Lua) and currently I'm using 2.0, the best version at the moment.

I believe there may be a .zip mirror for 2.0, but get 7zip or WinRAR (because it seems you probably have something like WinZIP, which afaik can only extract .zips. 7zip and WinRAR can extract .zip, .rar and .7z files).

I use both 1.3 and 2.0
I'm using more 2.0 version, because of Level Contest Japan and the PGE.
But i use 1.3 because of the editor, i think the legacy editor is better to make events than PGE. (But PGE is better.)

I've got to add warps here. But I use PGE for layers, though.

Since I've turned away from making content for the forums, SMBX 1.3 is good enough for me to play around with level design concepts for fun. That, and playing around with 8-bit graphics without the purists' eyes burning from the "clash" despite many Mario hacks and Super Mario Maker having as much if not even more clash. (Ouch. Sounds painful.)

But if I need to choose out of the two updated versions, I have to go with SMBX 1.4.4 simply because I feel like supporting the minority. That, and what I've seen, that version happens to be more of that traditional Mario style I prefer over the crossover feel of 2.0.
Behold the man who has embraced freedom from needless bonds.
I AM THE EMBODIMENT OF YOUR SINS.

Yes, it is me. The last person who would bring himself into modern communities.
The many faces of modern degeneracy like elitism, indifference and delusions of heroism
and superiority has made take the path with the least "human" variables to deal with.

In addition to antagonizing the internet, I do some... slightly creative stuff.
I really don't trust anyone around here too much, though. That, and the 2.0 community resenting the 1.4.4
community fills me with disgust.
Once things get nasty, I might have to sever my connections with this forum.
You should too. Just a friendly hint you can take with a grain of salt if you want.

Now with 300% more insanity. I will break your delusions of heroism and superiority to tiny pieces.

I completely agree with you. I think it's partly just the pressure of moving on, and also the newer versions have more stuff, but I mean you can still make great games with 1.3, you don't need custom scripts to make an enjoyable experience.

I agree. SMBX 1.3 is still my main choice when designing levels, and it's been that way for almost eight years now. Even if I move on to SMBX2, I'll never forget the version I grew up using.

Fun fact. I was using 1.2 up until about a year ago. Yeah, I was pretty outdated then.
