SMBX vs Mario Editor - Which game is better?

Postby Scroll » Thu Jun 28, 2018 12:00 pm

Both have great features in the editor, but I prefer SMBX for the battle mode. What do you think? Which one do you like the most?

with all of the content and possible updates for the next several years there is nothing that can beat SMBX 2.0 except maybe Mario Maker but it still has it's drawbacks and lack of content. 2.0 will have several beta updates and possible several updates after 2.0 is released. It already has most of the enemies from the core games the ones that are left will probably be created before they completely stop updating the game. They are adding new blocks, bgo's, backgrounds, world map level icons, and so much more. Also they plan to do more work to the playable characters and possibly even the world map in the future and we do now have 3D world maps. Let's not forget line guides, switch blocks, effects for every npc and this long list of NOW BASE GAME enemies.....I think 2.0 wins.

So, Mario Editor is one of the best editors I've ever seen because it has a HUGE amount of objects and very nice performance, anyways there's a big problem in it: you can't customize anything. Instead, in SMBX you can customize every single thing in the game (thanks to hardcoded GFX you can also customize things that weren't customizable in the previous versions), and LunaLua offers infinite design possibilities.
So I can agree with Teemster, there will never be an editor better than SMBX.

Mario Editor would be better than SMBX if you could put custom graphics per level, because with them you can create levels with a style from any game. SMBX wins.

Mario Editor has the worst community. SMBX is always thriving.

SMBX is more stable and has better physics. Only thing that mario editor has on SMBX is sheer number of power ups, but since half of them do they same exact thing, it doesn’t really say that much.
