Your favorite SMBX episode?

I love SMBX Contest Greatest Hits, a SMBX2 exclusive episode. Those great levels look like movies and the episode's hub is similar to the main hall of a cinema, because of the nice song and the decoration.

I think there's already a topic like this, I don't remember
But I'll post anyway

My favorites episodes, from the few I've played, are Hypnosis Redo, Summer Takeover, Curse of the Seven Stars and the classic and mighty The Invasion 2 (this one marked me a lot and made me love SMBX even more)

3. Sarasaland Adventure
6. Super Mario Star Expedition
I know everyone has their own opinions but I don’t understand how Sarasland Adventure is higher than Super Mario Star Expedition when I think it should be the reverse. Since the former has levels three times longer than Expedition and exacerbates the problems of Expedition. A good chunk of the stars requires you to backtrack a lot in the episode and getting all of them is required in both to beat it so they’re not optional. Moreover, the secret exits in Sarasland are often put at the very end of 5-7 minute levels. The boss fights in Sarasland Adventure are really bad since they’re essentially damage boosting for 2 minutes. All the episode has really going for it is that the graphics look nice, and when it came out it was one of the best episodes but doesn’t hold up nowadays

Added in 4 minutes 54 seconds:
Here’s my top 10 in no order. These only include the episodes I streamed (out of 208) and will be only listing 2.0

Also, this list is based off of having to 100% the episodes
Mario Mansion 4
Mario Mansion 3
The Last King of Hyrule
Rise of Bowser
2k16 December Collapse
Another Princess Cliche
Another Adventure
Luigi’s Fight for the Mushroom Kingdom

Here’s 8 since the other 2 I pick would be easily off my top 10 when I get to other episodes.

ok maybe I should downgrade it a little but ONLY a little. I really enjoyed the length of the levels, the level structuring ideas, the scoring possibilities, and the atmosphere overall and I didn't even mind replaying a secret exit level at all. Most of the star and secret exit locations are also executed really well.

For me it's the first new highlight in a big while, overall

I also don't mind the non-optionality of stars even if I have to look up a few in the editor

the list is also focused on which games gave me the best adventures, rather than design-wise criticism

How far are you into the episode? The episodes late game gets pretty obnoxious. Up to that point, the episode was alright so far. The levels wind up being 8-20 minutes from World 6 and onward and this is why I feel that way.

I have to disagree how the execution of the stars overall.
Essentially, collecting the stars feels as it has the same challenge as gathering the dragon coins, which feels really awkward. There’s a level in World 8 where you have to backtrack twice to gain a star. In that same level you have to play that entire level again and backtrack three times for a secret exit. In World 9 there’s a star you miss just because you took the wrong pipe. At the end of an 8 minute level at the second last section there’s two pipes at the very end, same x coordinates. If you take one you have to end the level, if you take the other you get the star and there’s no indication and this is really different than how the episode usually handles it.

Moreover while the ideas are okay the execution isn’t that great, and have been executed far better in later episodes down the line. It’s okay at best by 2019 standards. For example, there’s a level in World 6, in section one where it asks you to slide down, it then kills you if you don’t react to the fact you need to jump in less than a quarter of a section. That happens 2-3 times in the level and is nearly impossible to dodge first try. Moreover in that same level there’s various times where you go upwards on a ladder and platform for one minute and the only obstacle are bullet bills. All of these have been done in future episodes better executed. In the same world there’s a level based on having to ride a ripper where there’s around 2 minutes of waiting and dodging an occasional bird. This is required two times in the level, in addition to 3 minutes of platform riding. The remaining 6 minutes of the level is just casual platforming. These concepts have been executed far better in other episodes.

One of my favorite level in the episode was in the World 2 mid castle, other than that the late-end game was more tedious than anything else. The early game was fine for this episode and these issues were far less prevalent. I agree that the atmosphere of the episode was really good, but that doesn’t equate it to quality level design. If you enjoy it for the atmosphere, that’s perfectly reasonable

Can't believe no one mentions the Super Talking Time Bros. series.

My favorites include:
Super Talking Time Bros. series
Super RMN Bros./World series (Including Yoshi's Archipelago, which I contributed to)
The Last King of Hyrule (my 1st LP)
The Great Castle Adventure
Dr. Wily's Empire (although I despise the difficulty)
Super Mario Star Expedition (although I never finished it)
Sarasaland Adventure (never got to finish this one either)

There's plenty of episodes I have yet to play.

To be honest, I think these episodes are not THAT good.
I think The Invasion 2 is much better.
Super Talking Time Bros. 2 and 2.5 were pretty nice though.
