When I was 9, I just use to play Super Mario Flash. After a year, I found the trailer on youtube. I loved the idea due to the fact that I play retro games all the time. Finally, I found the download link. I never played Super Mario Flash since.

I found SMBX when I saw Wiiriketopray do a lets plays on one of the Episodes long ago. I gave it a try but I downloaded a version that gave me this thing called Softonic and it like took over my web browsers so I deleted it and removed it off the computer. I went from SM63 to Mario Builder to Reggie but that was too complicated as it was for NSMBW. Then I came across this again and I saw some pretty cool levels and graphics so I decided to try it out again.

I have heard about SMBX in a Mario wiki in the 2010-2011. After some time I deleted it and after an year I redownloaded it. Oh, and before I started to play SMBX, I was playing SMF and SMF2.

I got into SMBX by Vinesauce, and it was quite lately. I believe it was late this June, actually. I made a few levels, never a full episode mind you, and downloaded some episodes to play. I played them, and was instantly enticed. I played them in front of my 3 year old 2nd cousin, and he liked the pipes and shoes. After I found all the cheat codes, I'd have to type "needaredshoe" for each level I played with him. He never had actually played a real Mario game, but I think he'll like them just fine.

Ah, Super Mario Flash. The reason I will forever and always use the arrow keys instead of WASD.

I was like 6 years old and i was on the internet. (keep in mind i was 6) And I searched exactly this: "Mario" on google. And saw the old site that shut down a few years ago called supermariobrothers.org downloaded the game, put it on a thumb drive and took it home installed it and played it for a year, Got tired of it, and recently downloaded it again.

im gonna try summing this up but its still gonna end up a novel

TWAS A HOT SUMMER DAY IN THE TOWN OF WARWICK RHODE ISLAND WHERE WE FIND THE YOUNG 10 YEAR OLD LUIGIFAN2010, STARTING HIS JOURNEY INTO LEVEL EDITING. He was getting tired of how limited that one mario flash games' editor was and decided to google of the making of Mario levels. At the time, since he was young, he wasn't allowed to download anything since it wasn't his computer and he tried his very best to folow this rule diligently.

He came across smb.org, playing mostly all of the games on it at a previous time he noted SMBX, at the time version 1.1(i believe, not too sure on this). Not realizing it was a download, he clicked the wrong button and accidentally downloaded it. Never bothered to delete it.

Fast forward to that next summer of 2010, another hot boring day. Getting frustrated with Lunar Magic (he got an upgrade, he could now download shit but only to his flash drive) he stumbled across the smbx.zip file he left on the hard drive from the previous summer. His eyes opened wide as he fatefully extracted it, not realizing this would be his destiny for the next four years of his life.

Struggling to get a hold of the editor and how it worked (fun fact: i thought you couldn't resize levels :D) he made the shittiest boss fight ever with bowser. But this set off so many different lightbulbs, he proceeded to visit the forum for SMBX only to find that there 1.2 (i believe, once again, don't quote me on this). The 11 year young Luigifan proceeded to join the forums as Luigifan2010 and downloaded the next version.

And thats pretty much the short version, amongst the closing of the forums visiting trekwebs and being a member of knuxs for almost four years we're here now and I'm 15 and not a dumbfuck that knows how to resize levels.

Well it started around when i was 11 and searched some game sites and found supermarioflashv3.There i made level after level but eventually it gotten dull using only SMB1 and SMB3 sprites. So i searched and searched some more and found SMBX(1.2?) on youtube but i that point couldn't download it without parental consent(which as a no) Later I found Supermarioflashv2 using mostly SMW sprites, and made more levels but again grew duller over time. From there a tried Lunar magic a SMW Rom-Hacking exe to make a SMW hacked game.. I Couldn't play it when i finally could download it because it needed a low grade computer like DELL/Windows 2001,98. So then i found some games on yo-yo games called Mario Builder by Ting_thing( it as buggy and didn't like it) i also found Super Mario Game Master( No..not the "Game Master" for the Role playing topics) by Hello12345 that had mostly SMB1,3,and world with MIDI music to make levels and worlds(there was even a site to post worlds) eventually i found SMBX one day while on www.supermariobrother.org and downloaded it on my new gotten laptop and it just clicked instantly! All this time trying to find something that had a variety of graphic that the others didn't have! At first i didn't know what to do or how to play over time i figured it out on my own and well now i feel like a pro( which i'm actually not)!
As far Game Master it unfortunately faded away, however one thing didn't fade my worlds...My current SMBX project Bowser's Dark Plan is based off of what i had made from game master but redesigned! So here end how sMBX and i met and ill continue onward to...Success!

Hmmm, let' see, my story will probably be the same as most others but anyway...

It all started with Super Mario Flash 1 and its tiny little level editor that saved everything as txt files. That wasn't enough, I needed more. I searched away and within the hour I discovered Super Mario Flash 2 and its little SMW Editor that was a bit more advanced in the way of usable crap. I got tired of those quite quickly. Then... let's just dot point this:
Then it followed in this order:
Super Mario Game Master
Mario Builder (in devleopment at this point)
Trekweb while searching for Mario Builder gfx
Found SMBX and Lurked on Trekweb
Played with SMBX and Lurked on Knux's
Registered on NSMBX and Cloud's in 2012 and became a member (No more Lurking)
Saw out the forum fiasco of 2013
And here we are at the now moment, where my attention is fastly shifting to PlatGenWohl.

When I found SMBX, I had been using the SMB. 1 Level Editor for quite some time. Unsurprisingly, I had simply been scoring the internet for a Mario level editor that could fulfill my needs. It looked extremely good and I was eager to play it. However, unfortunately, I did not have a PC at the time. So I was stuck "window shopping" so to speak, until I received a Windows laptop as a birthday gift. I promptly downloaded it, made a forum account, and jumped right in.
I'm not too bad at spriting and level design. I'd be happy to help in a project if assistance is required.

Funny thing, I was watching some Mario videos on YouTube, then suddenly something about SMBX just popped out in the suggestions.

Origins?

Postby JupiHornet » Wed Oct 15, 2014 7:01 pm

I case the title was too vague, what brought you here? What got you started on SMBX? What were your first levels like? I might as well share my story.

From about 10, I gained an interest in game design. I started using the editor on Super Mario Flash, and then Mario Builder. I used Mario Builder for a few months, but my computer couldn't handle anything past v6.1 or so. I also really liked flash games back then, and I stumbled upon the SMBX website (it used to have flash games before Redigit got sued) and I found SMBX. It was at v1.2.2 at this point. 1.3 would come in a few months.

As for my first levels...
Well, when I first started, I didn't know how to extend the boundaries, so my levels were just a bunch of rooms connected to each other through pipes/doors. I only found out how to extend by accidental experimentation. I was also too lazy to name my levels; I named them all 3-digit numbers. My first one was called "545," I believe. I only found out how to use custom music/graphics through YouTube videos. I found out about layers and such by myself.

I also watched certain SMBX Youtubers.
RvBNut91 (Chad) who doesn't seem to upload videos anymore;
and as303298 (Wraith Adamnknight) who I still watch to this day.

Last month I decided to join the forums, and here I am! :D

What's YOUR story? :o

My brother SnifitGuy downloaded SMBX and I had a lot of fun playing the Princess Cliche, TGCE, and The Invasion. But I never really tried the editor until months, or maybe even a year, later, because I found it complicated. I started projects, cancelled them after a few levels, and started new projects. My levels were short, simplistic, and clashy. Then, I started my first serious project (which wasn't that good, but it was okay) and posted it on the forums. And that's about how I got into SMBX.
Check out my current project that I am making with DarkMecha!
