Hey guys, NintendoOtaku93 here again. This time, I'm going to ask you guys a question. I know, I may have the question as the title of this topic, but how creative are you guys when making your own SMBX projects? Reply your answer to this question if you guys want me to know how creative you are. Who knows, I might be amazed on how more creative you guys are than me! ^.^') How am I creative on my SMBX projects? By custom video game music added to some of the rooms in my current project, "Great Maze". Well, I'll stop posting topics for a while, (due to you guys getting annoyed by me & my posts.) and spend more time on my "Great Maze" project. Catch ya when I got a chance.

Never released an episode anyway.

Never plan to right now, but maybe in the future.

I'd say I'm pretty creative. None of the powerups in my project (well it's technically starz project but I'm not doing anything else) are the standard SMBX powerups and there's a "shine" system where if you get all the dragon coins in a level you get a shine. That may sound normal but there's a special level in each world where you can see picture frames for the 8 levels and if you collected the shine the level's frame has a shine in it. Thanks to Darkchao for making the code for that.

Creativity is one of, if not THE, most important aspect of all my levels. I always try to give every level I make at least ONE little quirk that sets it apart from the rest, be it a graphical theme, or a gimmick in the level.

I'm usually creative, I come up with some gimmicks, some bonuses etc. for my levels, but you can sometimes use all of your ideas and you have to come up with new ones. It's most annoying when you aren't home on your PC. I canceled at least two series because I didn't have any ideas or I just didn't like how it looked like. Overall, I would say I'm creative, but not that much. ^.^;

By the way, you're not annoying when you're posting a topic, it's a nice question.

Attempt to remake it in SMBX.

im working a mega manish project right now and by that I mean every level expect the final few will be from the start plus it will be difficult like mega man except for its mario, so except lots of gimmicks and creativty in this project

I am right now with a project in progess, mario' city. It is a roleplay like episode, so i am creative, also i try to add new stuffs every level I create.

Bumping this old thread for nostalgia reasons! And I found a new creative way when making some SMBX Projects! ^^
  • I made some 16-bit monochrome graphics about a few months ago, and the results were pretty great!*
*I finally learned a new style of 16-bit during the time I was making those GFX! ^^

That is objectively wrong.

I have played a game boy and limiting yourself to gray-scale graphics does absolutely nothing to interest me, it just shows me that if you consider that creative, your project probably isn't all that special.

I think black and white should be levels in an SMBX project, not the project itself.

The sheer use of grayscale isn't even creative in the slightest. It gets only interesting once you give colour some kind of importance in your game's design. For example, being able to paint in areas to make them function properly like in Paper Mario: Color Splash.
