Just to discuss what types of levels you like to build and which ones you don't.
I like making desert levels and sky levels, but underwater levels are the bane of my existence.

My favorite... I don't have a specific theme but I like creating levels that have a lot of action going on in them, like tank levels I guess, except I'd do any theme.
Least favorite would be sky and underwater levels due to the lack of ideas/gimmicks

I like to make levels with creative themes like Ruins/Canyon/sky or Beach/Sky/Grass/Sunset. My least favorite types are the ones that require to be too open.

I don't have a particular favorite or least favorite. But I'm rather fond of making grassland or regular overworld levels, but I have a distaste for making anything snow styled or desert levels.
In an age of darkness light appears
And it wards away the ancient fears
March to the anthem of the heart
To a brand new day, a brand new start

My favorite level type is sky. Also I like mixing the level types and make an unseen level type.

Factory levels. Yep, I had lots of ideas for gimmicks. (Magnetic Mayhem was an example)

My least favourite would be generic or monochromatic levels.
My favourite levels, I suppose, would indicate progression of a sort. The common appearance of that type would be a castle level, but I don't mean the castle theme specifically.

Favorites: I generally prefer working on more unique level themes, or combining anything that seems to make no sense and make them fit somehow (e.g. Forest and Cave, Lava and Beach). I also really like abstract themed levels, mostly because the liberty they give to the designer.
Least Favorites: I'd have to say Ice/Snow levels, as I have some trouble coming up with decent gimmicks for those and it's rather hard for me to be creative with them.

I don't make levels often anymore, but when I do my favourite types are the Snow/Ice, Jungle, Cave, anything involving a maze or puzzle. The ones that are my least favourite are Water, Mechanical, ... um...Water, I hate water levels...

My least favorite levels are cave levels with low ceilings, although that's more of a SMW problem than SMBX.

I like to make weird combinations of levels, like ice/desert, and types of levels you wouldn't typically see in Mario, like city levels. I want my levels to stand out and be unique.

Favorites - I have a tendency to frequently admire developing temple and beach-themed levels. As for an alternative, it could be a castle level. Those are addictive to construct, and there's a variation of gimmicks you could feature. Additionally, grotto stages are splendid, because it's like transporting Mario to a whole brand-new world. You could also combine a cave level with a lot of different themes, such as for instance a lava, forest, or grass theme.
Least Favorites - That's complicated to admit. I assume that maze levels are for one extraordinarily dull to create, because you keep constantly questioning yourself (does this fit? Will the Level Judges criticize this particular moment? Is this possible to triumph?), therefore it gets plain obnoxious. I don't mind water levels, but you're correct that they always eventually get repetitive as hell for a while. That's why I refrain from making them that much. Sky levels are terrible, too, for obvious reason. Conclusively, desert and ice levels are incredibly tough to invent, because there's a lack of actual neat gimmicks that you could put into them. They're my absolute least favorite, hanging barely below sky levels for the same reason.

I'd say that open space levels are outta discussion, but dungeons, special challenges and undergrounds aren't too bad for me.
HEY, THIS GAME SERIES IS FUN.
You could even say that...
it's li- gets kicked in the shin

In all honesty, while I love making desert and ice levels, I can't for the life of me make levels based on greenery for some reason. Maybe I am gradually getting worse from loss of interest or something, but I use to be great at grass levels apparently, but then I began sucking...

Hi!
I like the forest, castle and airship levels, but hate the mountain and underwater levels.

Mountain and Castle type levels are my favourites.
I can technically do every kind of level, but I really slack on those which I don't have good tilesets for.
