I was reading SuperMario12345's topic just now and it inspired me to make this, as a "sister" topic.
If you've played through a lot of levels, you should soon find that a lot of them are SMB3-styled. You will find a fair number of SMW levels, but the rest of the styles are uncommon in comparison, and SMB3 seems to beat them all in terms of popularity, possibly to the point where nearly everyone is doing an SMB3 level.
Why do you guys think we are overusing SMB3?
Lol, you got trolled. Move along, if you please.

Not only we use SMB3-like graphics, but also other graphical designers at various Mario places do.
Anyway, this question has already been answered - SMB3 has the most beautiful and realistic colors, though other styles are good too, but not as good as SMB3.

My opinions on this subject, as someone that also loves SMB3-styled levels.
SMB1 feels extremely flat and bland compared to SMB3 with the exception of the castle and underground graphics.
SMB2 actually has a really cool style. I think because the SMB2 enemies act so differently from the SMB3 ones it's less used.
Fireball's useless, the relatively awkward grab & toss ratehr than just stomping etc.
SMW has a very cartoony style and feels more blocky than everything else, I'm personally not a big fan.

I prefer SMW personally, but SMB3 kinda feels like SMBX's default style, Mario and Luigi (the most common playables, or at least the default ones) being SMB3-styled and it being the most common style in The Invasion 2 iirc (or at least the first levels were SMB3-styled).

SMB3 is my least favorite style. I think it has to do with most people making SMB3 graphics and stuff. Redigit originally made Invasion and Invasion 2 mostly SMB3 dominant, and I assume that pretty much said,"SMB3 IS DA BEST!!!"
I placed 18th in CC8,
I placed 8th in CC11, and I

Well, it definitely ties in with the huge popularity of smb3 graphics, since many like smb3 gfx, many tend to build smb3 styled levels. As for the style of levels in general i think it's just the fact that Smb3 out of the 4 main games used, has the most interesting designs. it has many more secrets and neat parts to levels that really stands out. The alternate paths and ideas that are applied in Smb3 make the levels fun to play and also fun for people to build.

OP you obviously have no idea what kind of levels this community puts out:
None of them are even remotely close to what can be considered a SMB3 level. SMB3 levels are short in nature, have 1-2 bonus rooms in them and feature no checkpoint. The only thing which connects the community's levels to SMB3 levels is the shading style of the graphics.
Emral in the other thread wrote:People don't like smb3 recoloured stuff. They go crazy about smb3 styled stuff. That's because the shading style of smb3 is the most realistic looking from the classic mario games which are included in smbx.
It's been a long time since I've seen a proper SMB3 level made by the community. I think Mario Classic is the latest episode to pull off something remotely close to SMB3 while incorporating checkpoints and considering SMBX' screen regions.
In terms of SMB3 styled levels, most people even mess this up and end up with a clusterfuck of styles in their level which is supposed to convey the image of a specific style. Take this level which I randomly picked from the Levels forum but actually looks like a lot I see around here:
The grass, background hills, turn block and bushes are still SMW-styled. It's just that the colours create an illusion to the viewer.
Ideas are useless if you can't make them real.
All my assets from packs and episodes are free to use for non-Novaverse levels and projects, as long as proper credit is given.

I don't see what's so bad about SMB3. Jesus, I don't see why anyone would give a shit.

I really have a Feeling around on this area that most of the creators are just aiming for SMB3 just because of the graphics. Sure, Levels are also based on SMB3 but in SMBX, they're oftenly bigger and also even more Contents involved like combining SMW and sometimes SMB2 (enemy behavours for example). SMB3 is basically the norm we have here on SMBX which you can tell by the Player graphics what we have (unlike Peach and Toad which they are SMB2 relative).
Really wish peoples would aim for more simplier Contents like SMB or even more complex like Metroid but oh well... we can only guess.

That's actually a really good point. At some point there were more SMB3 Levels/GFX, which led ppl to make even more SMB3 GFX/Levels and so on, and now every style but SMB3 is severely underused.

Honestly theres no problem. Everyone has his own rights to use what he wants. I for myself also use a lot of smb3 styled levels in the 7 crystal shards.

Smb3's color palette just looks pretty, and also kind of realistic imo

My thinking: it is a waste of SMBX capabilities to make it look like a SMW hack. You know I'm serious when I'm complimenting SMBX.

Here's a question: what is with you having to complain about nearly everything?
You might know me as LMNtals, Syndrilevosse, Danny, or 8bitmushroom.
If you need to get in contact with me, message me on Discord, or find me at SMW Central's Discord server where I moderate.

What is it with you with making these random repetitive topics like this that die out within a week?
Also SMB3 is the most realistic looking, it has good shading, and the levels just look awesome.
One day, we will paint with our minds.
it's been a minute since I've cared about this place, I'll have to do some catching up
If there is a 999 limit on characters, what's the limit on images?

Well, SMB3 has the most of everything iirc (blocks, backgrounds, songs, BGOs, etc.) and it's easy to make levels with that stuff.

I personally thought there was a double obsession with SMB2 and SMB3 going around. Not necessarily at the forums, but to do with SMBX as a whole.

I have to disagree with this one. Even if you did want to make it look like SMW, there are enough features a ROM hack could never handle (except maybe for a single-level or world presentation in SMW), so I would not consider it a waste.

I really think that SMB3 the official game as a whole is overrated. And so many people praise the game and no one asks why people do. I actually kind think that its kind of sad that everyone praises this game and other better games in the series don't get as popular or loved.
