This topic is for discussion and help with the SMBX 2.0 Open Beta. Please report any bugs here and give any feedback here as well. DO NOT POST LEVELS MADE WITH THIS BUILD IN THE LEVELS FORUM.

This is a 7z file, so you will need a program like WinRAR to open/extract it.


Head to this thread for information on setting up the new characters and features (such as Starman).

I've just downloaded it into my computer. Now I'm getting accustomed to PGE for the very first time.
Here we go, baby...

Edit: I've been playing around with the editor and I love it. However, why do I have to play all my levels as Peach?

You do realise it's just PGE and the engine is still WIP right? For testing, please use the Legacy Editor.

Here's a few issues I've quickly found:
- Ninja Bomberman's climbing animation has an issue with the feet--the mask is too large and large black spots show up
- after changing between levels in the Legacy Editor, custom graphics don't change until the level is tested, even after the level is saved
- in the New Editor (PGE), the sound that plays when F5 is pressed to test the level is cut off (you only about half of the sound clip)
So far this is awesome though. I love working with Lua and am currently making a level with Ninja Bomberman.

Amazing how this completely came out of the blue!

I saw the announcement thread earlier today and later came back to see the open beta was released! It's awesome seeing that this game is still receiving updates even after redigit was forced to drop the project.

As for what 2.0 includes, loving the new characters. It opens up more possibilities for level designing, though something about Bowser feels slightly off (might be because I was expecting him to play similar to his SMB3 counterpart in that he can ground pound to destroy blocks and he's a bit tiny). Regardless, MegaMan and Wario look pretty cool! That and custom looping music make SMBX nearly perfect for me!

Hope to see a stable release pretty soon!

but i mean honestly as amazing as all those new features are, i think we shouldn't underestimate the impact this has just because everyone's using lua now. this opens so many new possibilities and moves lua out of its previous niche entirely.

I'm aware of a couple bugs that need fixing and there will be a patch later today. Those who have already downloaded the package will be notified when it's ready automatically ~

Found an issue with ninja bomberman. Holding jump while climbing a vine rectracts the sprit to its jump animation. This allows Ninja bomberman to get stuck in blocks (you know, the bug where you slide of to the opposite side you're facing) and could potentially break levels.

The Starman is attempting to load smwstar.ogg from LuaScriptsLib\new_characters instead of graphics\new_characters.

Exactly. I can't wait to see what people who were holding off on using LunaLua because of how few people had it installed will end up creating now.

Does SMBX 2.0 works with Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit? I have this system, but I am uncertain if I installing software. :|
