Introduction:

The Mushroom Kingdom had lived in peace ever since Bowser's plans for world invasion through the power of the Sacred Star were ruined by Mario and his friends. However, unnerving news from the neighboring kingdom of Shiverburn Nova reached her highness, Queen Daisy. With the royal flagship and her most trusted allies, she began the journey to confront Bowser, who had obtained a new kind of power that would ensure his superiority.

The episode begins with an assault to Bowser's palace. Can you solve the perplexing puzzles in the mysterious world of Shiverburn Nova and put an end to Bowser's plans?

Features:

* 4 playable characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Link)
* Over 100 levels
* Multi-phase boss fights and minibosses
* Unlimited lives
* Takes advantage of LunaLua and SMBX 2.0 features
* Main graphics by Sednaiur

The remake:

Originally released in 2016. The episode has gone through a major overhaul in 2018-2019. Some of the changes include:

* Puzzles made visually simpler and more pleasant
* Story and atmosphere changed for the lighter
* Every existing level partly or completely remade, many removed
* Plenty of completely new levels, especially in the latter half of the episode
* Many levels no longer include a key
* Added a possibility to skip a certain amount of levels
* Overall difficulty lowered
* Miniboss introduction levels made much shorter
* Music changed for all levels
* Player graphics converted to png to prevent crashing

The episode should be played on SMBX 2.0 Beta 3.


Beta test:

As puzzle episodes require as much testing as possible, the beta test is open to anyone. Any feedback related to the episode difficulty, bugs, things that were enjoyable, things that were not enjoyable is more than welcome. Feedback is appreciated both in PMs and in this thread. The beta version is a full version of the remade episode, the final release will most likely not be much different. Please note, that the download may get taken down at any moment during the beta.

Known issues or things that will be changed for the final release:

- Star count is currently not visible on the world map
- Enemies that are present on the screen turn into coins when a star is collected (visual issue)
- Level exit doors that lead into a level that includes a star display a 0/1 text on them
- Beanstalk block graphic includes 1*1 pixels
- Arrow blocks in Haunt are placeholder graphics
- A possibility to skip story sections not yet added
- Bowser currently repeats his speech every time you enter the transformation room

Internal testing has only been done on SMBX 2.0 Beta 3. This is the recommended version to use (until Beta 4 comes out).

All the levels, world map, intro, and the first major boss are done. We are getting there. :) Expecting beta in a few weeks.

This is one of most interesting projects for me on these forums, since it has a very unique level-design.
You seem to really like puzzles so I am not so much suprised about a follower of Super Mario Enigmatic. ^^

Are the numbers on the levels at the world map telling about how many rooms in a row the player has to clear, to finish the level?

I may not have played the first or the first and a half one, but I watched a playthrough of as303298 from both episodes.
But my alltime favourite episode from you will always be Mario Prime - Remasked, as I liked it's RPGish design the most (I am kind of an RPG-otaku). :-P

Good to hear from you, Sedniaur. :) The numbers on the levels don't represent the number of rooms. It just means that "1" is the first set of rooms in that particular area/world, and "2" is the second set of rooms. Both have the same total amount of rooms (5). Also, this episode will be quite a bit more story driven than the first one.

About the current progress, there are two boss fights left to create and some fixes to the levels. As always before releasing, I'm having terrible doubts about everything at this point...

And about Mario Prime, I am considering making another Metroidvania episode one day now that I have learned how to use the lunalua data class. It would give a lot of new possibilities. Feeling drained right now though, so at the very least I need a lengthy break after releasing SME2. :)

I guess you will be finished soon with your project, unlike me. xD
But it's nice to see that you always get your work and projects done.

I am very happy to read that you think about another kind of Metroidvania episode, even though, it seems not sure yet. But I will wait patiently for maybe a new game of this kind. ^^

I like how it looks so far!, certainly something to look forward to, especially since I really enjoyed the first Super Mario Enigmatic.

Taking a few days off just to get some distance to the episode, and then going to finish it. It's been quite a long project... I managed to get stuck in my own puzzle that was made some months ago.

Yes I beat it easily back then. :p But I'm in the process of going through the old levels again and had forgotten how to solve it.

The initial version is now ready for internal testing. The first post has been updated with new screenshots and a new logo provided by Gary the Goomba (the Novaborn Bowser graphic was tailored for this episode by Sednaiur).

The beta testing will begin in two weeks, and the testers will receive a PM when it's time.

Oh my god, this looks so amazing! So much eye candy! I can't wait till this releases.

Though I should probably play the first one, though, before I play this one. I'll probably do that after I finish playing the new Halloween Hypno'.

Blasphemy! How dare you both! My respect for y'all just went down a major amount.

Also, Valterri, while AM2R's soundtrack is not perfect, how can you say that it's organic, atmospheric tracks should have sounded more like your electronic beep-boops? M2/AM2R takes place on a world dominated by nature, so why in the heck do you use so many artificial-sounding instruments for your tracks?

Hmm, none of them? That's unfortunate. I can see them on my home pc, work pc, and on the phone. I put the bigger world map screenshot to a separate spoiler now, but not sure if that helps. Can you see the logo?

I found so many things to change in the first test that I have to do a complete replay after I'm done with the fixes. The beta will most likely happen on the first days of October. Real life is also slowing me down right now.

And because one beta tester cancelled, I am in need of a new one.
