Here's an idea I just came up with:
Intermission levels between the Hubs. They can use the playable Boom Boom, and it could be Boom Boom going back to Bowser / whoever else, and Bowser etc. will give Boom Boom new powers that will be used by him in the next world / hub.
Or if that doesn't work, make it a cutscene of the NPC Boom Boom doing that stuff.
It could start from the arena of the last level of each hub, he makes his way to a secret base, gets his new powers, and the scene blacks out.

I have always wanted to see something like this, so I hope you can implement it (or something similar)! Can't wait to play the full game.

I don't want to do cutscenes after each hub since they are only four levels long

Yeah, good point. Still, would be nice to get a bit of info from the enemies' point of view.
And may I just say, this project is really cool, and I'm sure it will turn out to be really fun to play! Where did you get the ideas / inspiration from?

I'm not really interested in creating an extended story throughout which is why I'm not too interested in any "here's all these POVs" besides a few cutscenes for pregame and postgame. The inspiration: There's just so many poor-quality boss rushes that make use of solely reskins of vanilla bosses with basically no creativity and just repetitive AI. My goal was to take a single boss NPCs and make a series of boss fights that are each creative, unique, gimmicky, and fun to play with only Boom Boom

It's finally here!

Demo 0.2 is now available! It includes the first eight polished levels, two hubs, and a world map. The changelog is below.

Changelog
  • Added level completion indicators in hubs (below each level entrance)
  • Added level difficulty indicators (stars) in hubs (above each level entrance)
  • Added different graphics for collected orbs
  • Custom HUD!
  • Menu now has sounds and some menu bugs are fixed
  • Edited some dialogue
  • Added the Bonsai Market
  • Fixed saving issues (some still present, but for the most part it is okay)
  • Menu is now triggered by the escape (select) key
  • Tweaked special boss background
  • Boss #2 swapped with boss #4; also has more phases (reworked almost completely)
  • Boss #3 was scrapped and replaced
  • Fixed bug in boss #5 with moving layers
  • Added boss #6
  • Fixed minor bug in boss #7
  • Added phases to boss #8
  • Fixed graphical issues with boss #8
I've also added a bunch more screenshots. These are the only ones in the OP now since they are now the most relevant and give a good peek at the episode's contents.

Every time i enter the final level, it doesent work! i extracted the files!!! Even this happened In 2.0!!!

By the way, has progress been made recently? Will we see the full release in a matter of a few weeks, or is this still a long way off?

The next demo is just around the corner!

I've been working on significantly remastering a lot of the battles to make them a lot better in terms of gameplay and design in general. Also working on a few more which will be included in the next demo.

Also I've noticed that the images in the OP have expired? Will fix them ASAP.

Now that my exams are done I can make a lot more progress on this and will hopefully have some more screenshots of new battles in a few days and then hopefully the next demo in a week, or two at most
