Mario's Quest

Postby Ninji2701 » Tue Mar 31, 2020 4:50 pm

Mario's Quest is a classic Mario adventure which blends the SMB1, SMB2, SMB3, & SMW themes into one game. It has 8 worlds, which are as follows:
Spoiler: show
  1. Goomba Grasslands
  2. Fuzzy Forest
  3. Buzzy Beetle Beach
  4. Tanooki Suit Tundra
  5. Monty Mole Mountain
  6. Spiny Space Station
  7. Dry Bone Desert
  8. Bob‐omb Basin
Worlds will usually be released in two parts, with the exception of worlds 2, 6, & 8 due to their long length. This game will also feature switch palaces, found in 4 of the 8 worlds within the game.

Intriguing. Do you have concrete ideas for some of the individual levels already? Definitely helps to avoid running out of ideas halfway through.

The release schedule seems excessive and a tad random. You don't specify what makes it so that the jump from W6 Part 1 to W6 Part 2 constitutes a new greek letter. I'd say focus more on developing than releasing.

Mario's Quest Prev‐Α is expected to be released either tomorrow or Monday, depending on how long it takes me to polish the preview for release.

Mario's Quest Prev‐Α is now officially released! Click here to download it.
Installation instructions:
  1. Create a new folder inside of the ‘worlds’ folder.
  2. Extract the ZIP file into this folder.
  3. Enjoy!
Do NOT extract this directly into your worlds folder as it will create a huge mess that will be extremely difficult to clean up.

Spoiler: show

Mario's Quest Prev‐Β is now available for download! Click the image below to download:

Once again, a changelog for those who are interested:
Spoiler: show
  • Added Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐4, 1‐5, Yellow Switch Palace, 1‐6, & 1‐Castle.
  • Edited Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐1's ending segment, replacing the portals with munchers.
  • Edited the pipe layout near the end of Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐3 so that the player is no longer damaged immediately when emerging from the bottom pipe with a power‐up.
  • Fixed a bug in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐3 where the player could fly underneath the end platform.
  • Fixed a bug in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐1 where the player could fly over the second‐to‐last clear pipe.
  • Fixed numerous points in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐2 where the player could fly over/under portions of the level.
  • Fixed an issue in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐Fortress where the level could become unbeatable if the player failed to drop the Big Thwomp before the P‐switch timer ran out.
  • Changed Toad's design in most levels to look more like it is from SMB3.
  • Added modified battle mode variants for some levels. They are found in the ‘_Battle Mode Levels’ folder.
Added in 42 minutes 41 seconds:
Also, new Logo.

Added in 1 hour 3 minutes 40 seconds:
I'd also like to release a new LOGO PACK for Mario's Quest. Click here to download it. I also made logos for Prev‐Α & Prev‐Α.1, if you wanted that.

Mario's Quest Prev‐Β.1 is out! Download here:
Image
Obligatory changelog time!
Spoiler: show
  • Fixed an issue in Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐4 where the player could clip through the ON/OFF blocks after the clear pipe.
  • Completely replaced Wᴏʀʟᴅ 1‐5.
I would also like to announce the beginning of the Lite version! It's similar to the standard version except specifically optimized to reduce file size without hindering play experience. Some things that are excluded are:
Spoiler: show
  • TXT changelog files
  • Fancy credits files
  • VS mode levels (Those things are huge)
Download here:
Image
But of course with every new version come a new LOGO PACK!!! Download by clicking here.
I also for some reason made this, a version of Mario's Quest Prev‐Β.1 Lite with absolutely no custom graphics. It looks like crap, doesn't get a logo, but it's only 148kB, so if you want to play Mario's Quest Prev‐Β.1, but somehow don't have 612kB of free memory, this is the way to go! Either that, or for some reason you enjoy looking at unpolished garbage. I call it: Mario's Quest −2.1.

What version of SMBX are you using?

Added in 3 minutes 39 seconds:
I should mention that this is 2.0 only. I'm currently developing this on 2.0β4 Patch 1, although I will move to the full release of 2.0 once that is released.

It looks like you need a VERY big Patch to fix this

Or I could just, you know, not name the ZIP files using special character in the future.

since this seems to be quite a trivial error cause, you can bring back the download link, right?

Still using the legacy editor? Get SMBX2 and PGE, it will improve your experience significantly. Here's why. And remember, Yoshis are tools to be used and discarded.

It's still removed from the first post. Are there any other reasons to this?
