Review of Another Desert by diamantico21
Starting in the first section, the level looked pretty well at the start, but then here's some problem - when you go under the quicksand, for like, 10 seconds, you enter some pretty flat screen, where you press a block and then you activate an event, where the block tiles crush you, since there's no way out, and this is very pointless and not good to do this death trap. The design has SMB2 and SMB3, which is sorta okay. Back in the start of the level, there's an invisible block, which includes a vine and when you go to up, you enter a bonus section, and it's not good and tedious, since you have to jump from platform to another to get a 1-up, and there's low-coin amount probably. Back to the progress, the first section looked to be a bit empty, at the end of it, you go down by 'digging' through sands and then this happens - you left out SMB3 desert tiles acting as BGOs, which causes cutoffs. Better just get rid of them and it will be okay.
After that, you go to the door and then you enter...the ruins? Before entering, there was two pillars next to the door, but when entering, you came from nowhere to the ruins, so it makes it sorta confusing, better add some ruins-themed blocks next to the door and it would be okay. Anyway, the ruins section is too empty, not counting three pillars, so you should put some BGOs there, another problem in this is lack of NPCs, there's no coins or emenies, except the Thwomp-acting block, which scared the shit out of me for the first time. xd Anyway, after the midpoint, when you go to the vase from the bottom, you just enter a place where there are 4 blocks, including 3 coin blocks and 1 power-up block, but what's the point of this section? You can put them where the midpoint is, so there's no point of putting it there. When you enter the door, you exit from the ruins and go back to the desert, and I don't think custom desert tiles would fit with ruins-themed ones, and there was a cutoff with SMB3 desert tile BGOs again! The section was a bit empty, you should add some BGOs in it.
Back to the where the midpoint is, there's a vase from the top, which goes to the different section. Again, a bit empty. At the end of the section, there's many bricks, which one of them includes a 1-up and even Hammer Bros suit, and it looks too much rewarded. When you enter the vase, you go back to the ruins, which is wayyy too empty and then you go to the door and then you exit from the ruins again! This makes gameplay confused pretty much, and adding Phantos next to the point are pointless. The last section was okay, just a bit of lack of coins. At the end of the section, you go to the SMB3 goal and the level ends. WHELP, the graphics are great fit for the desert-themed level and the NPC placement was a bit okay, the gameplay was a bit boring and design sorta confused me, while it's a bit flat and empty and still has some cutoffs in it.
Good:
+ Graphics are great.
+ NPC placement.
Bad:
- No interests.
- Design is a bit flat and confusing.
- cutoffs
- Pointless death trap.
Overall Score: 3/10
