There's some banter in the Site Discussion thread about captchas, and bots registering. I think the topic should have it's own thread and perhaps broadened a bit with a question: What security measures/methods have you seen that are effective, have no hassle, and keep bots/spammers out that you would like to see here? I've already recommended captchas for registration and posting in the Site Discussion thread, but I'll add onto that regional blocks for China and Romania also help since hardware in those countries is often outdated and exploitable for coordinated attacks. Also, internal linking is usually a plus.

What does everybody else think?

I think you care about this too much. Joey is able to protect the web-site from spam bots and stuff by himself, I mean I think he knows what he's doing right now.

I second what h2643 why would anyone care about spambots or bots at all? Can't we just finally start to ignore those finally? All of them never posted anyway so why bother with them?

Also it wouldn't be a good idea to block any other regions as we probably have people from there and imagine we block them out of here. Thats like someone would suggest block off germany, norway, russia, turkey etc.

The community just should start ignoring those am sure the staff can handle it if they eventually would post advertisings as we already saw this once and the staff did delete all of it.

Also honestly it's the www u don't really have any security on it as soon you enter the web.

Yes i also know about the chat problem that might be revelant but it's probably only 1 person doing this and even tho it's been going for years, the community should start ignoring it completly and stop feeding that person.

I do what I can to make this place stable and secure, Aero, and those matters are not up for discussion because I don't need the help of the general public. If you think there's a problem with security, keep it in the Site Discussion Thread.
