You are obviously unilaterally informed and biased towards 1.4, but well, here's your explanation to show you that it's not us doing cheap propaganda for 2.0. Of course, 38A intended to make an extension of SMBX but he decided to make it from the ground up, with zero compatibility. That's why you'll notice a lot of fundamental differences to "old" SMBX, and some of them are really bad - the physics, the saving during episodes (only when you unlocked a new path, gah), the main menu (it confuses me many times). The editor also keeps the fundamental flaws of 1.3's legacy editor.

On the other hand, 2.0 expands upon the original SMBX (read the FAQ to see how it's done), and is backwards compatible, meaning it has full right to be called SMBX's official successor. It already has some exclusive content - 10 new characters, some special blocks, LunaLua ... and there will be masses of more content in future versions. But most importantly, it has its OWN level editor which does so many things better than the old one. Even if you may not acknowledge that at the beginning, it's an objective fact. Just because 1.4 brings way more extra content for the time being, does it mean 1.4 should be put on a pedestal, despite its actual downsides? Not to mention that the developper is a bloody narcissist and put development on hold for extremely self-centered reasons.

Using 1.4 and sharing 1.4 content is all welcome, being a 1.4 supporter also is, but promoting it with sheer misknowledge is not.

2.0 also has bugs and inconveniences, like 1.3 also had, but it's not in a disfunctional state as much as 1.4 is.

also is it just a coincidence that your name is familiar

but promoting it
i was not promoting the 1.4 version.
anyway, thanks for explaining, but i know what a Beta Games is, but this is different from the usual, (Apex Legeng, Fortnight, MCPE, Roblox, etc.)
these mostly start with the biggest content in the first release, but it is weird how here giving the complete-game-release treatment to future versions, making the first releases look like the update.

What's with the sudden influx of new members in the past 2 weeks that are all misinformed about SMBX2 in the exact same way? I had some guy on youtube tell me the other day the way we did things was "not how it's supposed to be!" in reference to # of features relative to version. Not accusing anyone of anything here, I'm just WEIRDLY tipped off about these patterns.

Maybe someone is accusing of SMBX2 as a fake version on YouTube, since (let's be honest here) there are so many SMBX 38A YouTubers.

Beta4 is or was short on man power so it is waiting to be released but getting closer. Beta3 was led by horikawa I think and that person is taking a break or helping out. I looked over 38a and honestly I thought this engine was better but then I like a more professional polished stone look and some of the enemies in 38a just seemed to nor be right to me. I have no problem with that game other then it feels rushed and incomplete. When beta4 is released it will have far more content including less bugs and crashes. Beta5 will have more stuff too.

Beta 4's shortness on manpower is unrelated to the fact that our development lead shifted from Horikawa to a mix of Hoeloe, Rednaxela and me.

Tbh it'll probably have more bugs cause of how much more stuff it has.

Yeah i don't think the smbx2 dev team can fix all of the bugs before release considering just how many new stuff there are and the amount of interactions there will be between them.

I might be wrong tho...

What happened with the "advanced" option for the npcs that, for example, allowed to personalize the bullet of the venus piranha plant? :(

This is not SMBX 38A, therefore features from that engine won't necessarily be in SMBX2 (which uses the original SMBX engine).

Oh, I see, is SMBX 38A independent of SMBX? Or what differences do they have?

It's a completely different engine designed to look and play like SMBX, but bears no relation to SMBX in the underlying code structure.

They have a lot of differences but beta 4 will bring a lot of stuff that 38A has so far.

(https://youtu.be/dtpjxrHh40s in case the youtube embed doesn't work)

Note that yoshi has nothing in their mouth and can fly.

Works with both yellow and blue shells. The shell has to fully despawn. If you have yoshi eat another thing (one that can be spit out), then the glitch stops. Also, you can make yoshi eat anything that doesn't automatically get swallowed and preform this glitch for a chance to transform the item (usually you get a coin like in the video)

Wait does reserved mean it's not gonna be in the standard b4?

The reserved range is for episode creators.

I mean like is it possible to use these NPCs if you're not an episode creator?

What does that mean? Those slots are blank slates. We, as the development team, will not touch them.

Been a loooonnggg time since I was last here.

Unfortunately, I lost all my SMBX data when I was cyber-attacked back almost a year ago. I actually haven't touched SMBX since, though I have been wanting to get back in the swing of things. I saw the blog post; looks like things are close to finished for the beta 4 update, that's good. Progress is good.

Oh, me? Well, I've been in the process of getting out of Silicon Valley social media, working on an RPG I intend to finish, and as far as fangame stuffs, I got into Mega Man Maker pretty heavily, that is, until I was no longer able to connect to the game server because my ISP is being an asshole.

So, maybe I'll setup SMBX again. I think I can figure out what I need for custom assets and such.
Just for jogging memory, SMBX can play nsf files natively, yes?
