If you think the weather was bad, count your lucky stars you don't live on these planets:
HD 189733 b
Winds reach 5,000mph - seven times the speed of sound - which would whip anyone would-be visitors into a sickening spiral around the planet.
Temperatures climb to more than 3,000C - hot enough to melt lead - around 60 times hotter than the record set on our own planet and more than half as hot as the Sun. Sounds like a fun day.
COROT-7B
Orbiting at one twenty-third the distance from the Sun to Mercury, things get pretty hot on COROT-7b. A year lasts just over 20 hours and temperatures soar to 2,600 degrees C. Its surface is likely coated in molten lava oceans and it might even rain rocks (Sorry, your umbrellas won't cut it this time)
HOPS-68
Rains tiny crystals made of Olivine. Not a planet but a proto-star.
HD 80606 b
Can double it's temperature in just 6 hours. Doubles from 500 degrees to 1,200 degrees, due to it's orbit. It receives 800 times more light when it's closest to it's parent star than when further away.
Proxima B
And we thought it was really earth-like...
The planet is subject to stellar wind pressures of more than 2,000 times those experienced by Earth from the solar wind.
55 Cancri E
Girl's best friend (the core is) but it's tidally locked, the side facing it is superheated to 1,700C, hot enough to melt metal. The diamonds? It's in the core and it's worth $26.9 nonillion. Before you launch your drills, it's 40 light years away and you'd need a special suit to land your feet on, and the amount of diamonds you'd bring back would instantly crash the stock market, so no moneys for you.
Gliese 436 B
It's a planet. No ordinary planet. It's the size of Neptune, but it's made out of ice and it's constantly on fire. How it happens? The intense pressure prevents the ice from evaporating.
HD 188753
If you're a Star Wars fan, this should be familiar.
This planet is located 151 light years away and anyone standing on it would witness 3 shadows. Yes, 3 shadows because of the amount of stars orbiting it (3), making it similar to Tatooine from Star Wars, with a 1 star difference.
