I'll probably end up using 2.0 soon. I just need to slowly learn what's new by experimenting. Remember what I said about Halloween? That didn't happen. However, I may have time tomorrow.

I downloaded 2.0, but the exe didn't work. Eventually I found the PGE engine and editor exe's, but was disappointed by the content. The default episodes are really glitchy, and some of the for some reason I couldn't even pick up carryable items (billy gun, toothy, rainbow shell) in the editor. I understand that it's still in beta; I think I'll wait.
Really, doctor. Your constant use of ancient Earth vulgarities is quite illogical.

I think you're using PGE Test. Just press F5 if you want to test levels in 2.0

How does SMBXLauncher.exe, in the data folder, work?

Is it JUST in the data folder, or is it buried in subfolders? I can't find it.
Nevermind, I figured it out. My security software(Norton) automatically deleted several key files of SMBX2 as I was extracting it (based on their "reputation" system).

When it comes to SMBX don't trust antiviruses. If possible, try to prevent Norton from deleting the files.

I have. But I can only tell it to allow files that it already tried to delete, meaning I would have to keep attempting launching smbx2 until I found every single file that Norton considers to have a "bad reputation" (Unless I'm mistaken of course, which is always a possibility). I may just do that anyway if I get desperate. Norton only acts when I try to launch, so I still have every file backed in the 7zip.
I was mistaken. I was able to exclude the whole folder, so I shouldn't have any more trouble with it.

Good morning community.
During the past 3 weeks, I have digged deep into it. My heart is set onto the original SMBX 1.3.0.1, too.
I wonder what kind of choice did the other 1.000.000 made. Hmm, considering the language barrier...
Well I just can speak for myself. After exploring every version I could find, old and new, I like how they differ in their charm. And it was a marvelous adventure to explore the history and development of SMBX.
I will continue to lift the buried treasure of the forums then. To bad that the playable character template got lost during the harder times. It probably would have saved me a lot of time.
Have a pleasant weekend.

I still use the 1.3.0.1!
Honestly I don't feel interested in SMBX 2.0 or 1.4, I prefer the older versions (also I met this game at 1.3! I don't want to lose the nostalgia!)
Same with me
the location too lol

I doubt that the usage of the original SMBX will stop just like that. As a beginner myself, I found it to be very helpful to understand and master the very basics first. Considering all I have learned so far, it honestly surprises me that the 1.3.0.1 has been barely used to it's fullest. Even without the whipped cream and the extra cherry on top, it is capable of much more.
I will have a lot of fun using it to the fullest possible.

SMBX 1.3 is basically redundant because SMBX2 expands it fully. You can also use 1.3 to its fullest within X2 (and more). I mean it's still good for getting-to-know-it ... but if you want an engine that's nice to work with, you need SMBX2.
Still using the legacy editor? Get SMBX2 and PGE, it will improve your experience significantly. Here's why.

I respect your opinion, @Cedur. It is nice that you have found what works out for you best.
Other than that. If you really like to be my voice, you will have to get to know me first. I insist.
Have fun.

I used to use 1.3.0.1. When I finished my episode with it, I decided to try out 2.0 and built a small level with it. After using 2.0 and getting used to how it worked, I realized that 1.3.0.1 was trash. The only thing I don't like about 2.0 is that I have to actually click on the editor screen before I can move around rather than 1.3 which just required the mouse cursor to be in the screen. Everything else is so much better, especially how sizables is just "click drag, make a square" rather than "Click this little arrow a lot until you think it's the right size".
Happy Dance
