How to make a world map and episode

Hi, I'm Yang, or my former name, Steam! I'm completely new, so I'd like to know how to make a world map, because when I make one and put it in an episode folder, all I get is a black screen, with blotches of grass. Could somebody help me?

Make sure to save your World map (by pressing Ctrl+S).

Btw if he didn't save then it wouldn't be possible for him to put it in a folder.
Anyway, i've never encountered this issue, but i would guess 1 of 2 things:
Your world map is corrupt or wasn't saved as a world file, or
You didn't place any objects down.

Or maybe he hasn't set a game start point. But without screenshots, we won't be able to help him.

Hmm, just a black screen could indicate a lack of start point. If that is/was the case, selecting the start level (or when placing initially) and selecting the "game start" option will set it as the game start point, but only one. I don't know exactly what happens with multiple but I expect it would probably be a black screen or something bad.

However, these "patches of grass" you mention does hint at some sort of file corruption. Unfortunately with that one you'll probably have to redo the map.

Have you set the "game start" option on the level tile you want to be the start of the game?

Ok, so I enabled Game Start on the START Level tile, but not the Grass tile under it. Do I have to do it for the grass tile or the Game START tile.

You enable the option on the level tile. Terrain tiles do not have this option. If it's still not working, check you haven't accidentally set any of the other levels as start points.

I made sure of all of that. But it still gives me the images above. And the thing is, the black parts of the screen shouldn't be there, because my world's land is a square with no jagged parts.

Hm. It really shouldn't be doing that. Yep, something's wrong with either the file or SMBX itself.

I'm guessing if you don't use all the files in your map, it won't work?

No, it should still work if you've got level tiles that haven't got any file with them. However, you may need a file attached to the game start level, as I think it goes straight into the level rather than the world map.
