How detailed does our character's backstory have to be?

Here are all the character restrictions since folks were asking:

- Level 1 to start out
- Classes and archetypes must use the most updated version available (Revised Ranger, v2 over v1, etc.)
- Stats are generated via the Standard Array or 27-pointbuy (both are available on 5etools)
- Other than these restrictions, all content on 5etools (https://5etools.com/5etools.html) is allowed.

And other fairly minor house rules for this campaign:

- The Lucky feat turns disadvantage into a regular roll.
- The use of spells and archetypes (and any other material) with the source “Unearthed Arcana: Modern Magic” (UAMM) is strictly prohibited.
- If you create a backstory for your character that goes more in-depth than their background, you may learn one (1) feat that you qualify for as a level 1 character.

Regarding the logistics of the actual campaign:

(since you specifically asked this)

At the moment I'm planning on doing this in a play-by-post format, similar to the D&D campaigns Danny ran in the Sandbox forum last year, which generally worked fairly well, I think. Depending on how it goes this time around, we may end up switching to an in-person voicechat sort of thing on the site Roll20 but for now, assume it's play by post.

Hope this answers your questions, if there's anything more you need to know feel free to ask in this thread or in the newly resurrected #roleplay channel on Discord.

Glad that's cleared up. I usually use the "4d6 and remove lowest" method for rolling stats, so it's a good thing I used pencil (I'm actually doing it on a printed out character sheet right now). I'll have to look up feats, since I haven't encountered them before.
Edit: I'm slightly sad that I have to change my stats, I got some pretty good rolls. Including an 18. But it's no big deal.

Yeah, 4d6 remove lowest tends to create either overpowered or underpowered characters so that's why we do standard array for most 5E campaigns. Feats are pretty simple, they're just extra abilities you get that are geared toward a specific playstyle. They're pretty cool.

Yeah. We haven't started playing yet, but my campaign I'm running has a pretty OP bard.

Well, I read the rules & look at the stats for this "Mario Universe D&D", and realize there's no Badge Points stat. I guess we're following traditional D&D stats....
Sorry for nitpicking!

I tried to take a look at the manual, but the manual have so many pages. And, i'm not even done with finishing the first page, due to links. Maybe i'll join once i'm done reading it. Also, i've seen some acronyms on characters. Can you explain to me what those means? So i can pick my character wisely in this RP.

Also, there are so many stuff i need to know, since i never played D&D before. This might take longer.

I've decided to make some pixel art for a character, its based on the Yoshi's Island sprite but with a different palette and frown instead of a smile

Should we post our characters here? I'm reusing an old character concept from when Joey did the roleplay way back in the day.

Yeah feel free to post character sheets if you'd like! A thread announcing the campaign concept and such will be posted later tonight, or tomorrow at latest.

Put it in a Google doc because it's easier that way.

Shif T., the uninspired name.

Short question about the classes & races, Can I be a Sammer Guy* or any creature from any of the Mario rpgs?

*Y'all know, those creatures from Chapter 6 of Super Paper Mario

A Sammer Guy could probably be represented as a fighter with the Samurai archetype at level 3. I'm not sure exactly what race it'd be, some kind of Shy Guy would probably work though.

Great. I'd just fully filled out my character sheet using an online PDF filler I found (Since I don't have one on my laptop), and found that although it had been saving it somewhere probably on their site, I couldn't save it to my laptop without signing in. So, I made an account and it said that I wasn't allowed to access the document. I was doing exactly what it wanted me to do. So now I've lost my character sheet and all the details I put on there. I'll try logging out and seeing if I can access it then. If so, I can probably copy the details onto a piece of paper.
