"Major Edit" Button

Postby chuckster » Tue Jul 17, 2018 7:55 pm

You know when you post a reply or something like that, but you think of something cool after everyone has seen it but not replied? To prevent double posting and allow people to update what they've said, we should add a little tick box in edit mode that says "Major Edit". They can tick the box if they want everyone subscribed to the thread to be alerted in their notifications.

TL;DR: An edit option that notifies all subscribed.

Wait wait wait...You can subscribe to threads? And you want notification flooding due to some dude who keeps messing up his edit?

Messing up with stuff like typos is not important, that's why the button is optional. Of course, there might be one or two douche bags who'll press the button even with one letter changed but I doubt everyone is like that.

You could even make it so you cannot tick the box unless it surpasses a certain word count to signify its importance.

You can subscribe and unsubscribe to topics via the Tanooki Mario button at the top of each thread.

First off, random notification spams is never a good idea.

Second, to be honest, I can't think of many instances where you'd want to edit your post in a major way and it's so important, you'd want everyone to know. The only case where you want to do it would be if the post was OP, and even then you could just make a post in the thread to notify that you've edited it.
Plus, not everybody will see you post right when you post it. You can edit it afterwards and there still might be some people who hadn't seen it yet.

Well, they should probably restrict it to only OP.

That is redundant. People can already subscribe to threads they find interesting, it's just a matter of posting something like "Hey, there's something new here" and it'll get the attention such update would deserve. You are suggesting a commodity that is really not needed.
