[Music pack] SMBX High Quality Music pack

Postby Wohlstand » Mon Apr 21, 2014 8:22 am

Hello.
I present my music pack: The SMBX High-Quality Music pack.

What is it?

This is converted from original SNES/N64/NDS Chiptunes and 16 songs collected from the Internet.
I made all for saving quality, that it was possible to enjoy a pure sound.

This archive contains the High-Quality versions of all 74 tunes, used in SMBX (from 1.3, 1.3.0.1 have a 75-th tune, named as mk-credit).
Download music pack .ZIP
(*.mp3 320 Mbps) (232 MB)
You need only unpack all contents from this archive into SMBX\music folder to apply the new music pack.
or you can unpack it into another folder for comparison.

If you are use LunaLUA, you can use the OGG version of the same music pack: it has some good quality, but much less size!
Download music pack .ZIP
(*.ogg) (87 MB)

please, don't hurt sound quality with MP3 format, save WAV version for your works and use MP3 only for release version.

I think Valtteri made this before.

I heard about it, but i recommend comparing it. And... Mean you included in SMBX 1.3.0.1? It is not HQ, only added effects, but not HQ.

Upd:
But some tunes replaced in SMBX 1.3.0.1 to tunes with better quality, but All SNES-like (All smb*-, sm-*, sf-*, z3-*) tunes on former average quality.

Music is really better, than there was in SMBX 1.3, but a most part of SNES like music (all smb-*, smb2-*, smb3-*, sf-*, sm-*, z3-*, mariorpg-*) all the same average quality. You can compare it. But, this variant good for slow connections. I create pack of pure sound music, but, large size, and I recommend for those who really wants a pure sound.

for comparing:

I can't quite hear the difference between the RPG themes, could be because my headphones are a bit broken, but I can hear a slight blurriness in the music I used compared to your rips. I think your music would complement SMBX 1.3.0.1 very well, but I don't like the idea of replacing the nsmb-theme with an entirely different track. I could be wrong, but the song Redigit used is an excerpt from a Super Mario medley from Super Smash Bros. Melee if you want to track it down and rip it your way. Until then, nsmb-world will remain as it's now, and I'll review your music at one point and will probably add them in the next 1.3.0.1 update.

Ow, yeas. thanks for help to found original, I updated "nsmb-world" to "Super Mario medley from Super Smash Bros. Melee" version:
http://wohlnet.ru/sentfile/nsmb-world(Smash).wav (I found "Super Mario Bros 3" from SSMM and croped for create new (old tune for example)). In my current version I used "New Super Mario Bros World 1", converted from chiptune, but because I found necessary tune, I removed it from archive
(I save in WAV repository as "nsmb-world(NDS-Chiptune).wav").

So THAT is where nsmb-world comes from! I've always been wondering about that track because it wasn't updated with 1.3.0.1 and it had absolutely nothing to do with NSMB. Thanks for the tip!

The reason why the music used in SMBX 1.3.0.1 doesn't have the original chiptune quality might be that these tracks are downloaded from YouTube or any other video website (there's tons of video game music available there), rather than having been ripped from the video games. Music found on YouTube rarely has studio quality. Having the music ripped from the games (or downloading the music from a video game music website) would be a really good part of the next update for SMBX. And your results so far look really promising, Wohlstand. Kudos to you!

He changed it to a NSMB track because in the editor, it's linked to a button that says "NSMB". If you want to keep this, maybe you could edit 1.3.0.2 to say "SSBM"?

Tiny update of music pack:
Replaced the short "SMW-Special" to the long version with "Super Mario Bros. Remix" part.
Because it is a two difference chip tune files, I was merge two rips into one file by Audacity.

This update will be included into the next update of the laboratory build of PGE Editor.

you can

i must say though, after listening to all 3 versions (redigit's, valtteri's, and wohlstand's) there is a BIG difference between all 3. i'll be sticking with valtteri's for now for filesize, but if you're an audiophile I seriously recommend wohlstand's

wohlstand's is crazy to me, there's actually more than one instrument it sounds like :D

Now the OGG version of same HQ music pack has less size than Valtteri's MP3 pack and has much better quality of musics!

While this topic is very very old, but somebody had annoyed me by access request (damn Google Drive), so, I updated links to stop this mess. Have fun!
