Yoshis could technically be considered items or powerups, because in certain games when you ride them, they act as an extra hit point or a shield/damage boost against enemies, and they're also able to flutter jump, walk on spiky objects, and eat many different enemies too.

Ice flower is funny. Throwing enemies is very cool. I should make a level based around that.
