M20 - Host Sign-ups! (Voting has begun!)

Postby Julia Pseudo » Fri Apr 24, 2015 9:24 pm

It's the big number 20!

Mafia 20

We're looking for your quality mafia hosting skills and your quality mafia games for our next game!

You've seen Mafia.
You've played Mafia.
Now, it might just be your time to host some Mafia!

Sorry to Mivixion, but he will not be hosting. :(

How do I apply?
All you need to do is post your game suggestion in this topic!
However, you must have participated in at least one mafia game in order to host a game.

After you have posted, your two Game Masters, FallingSnow and I, will edit your post and respond in green at the bottom if we approve.
If we have comments or changes that we recommend, we will edit in red.
Optional suggestions may be in yellow or orange.

Tips to Remember:
Each user may only submit one game, so choose wisely!
Your game should contain around 15 to 20 players.
Have about 1 mafia member for each 4/5 townies.
Your game doesn't need to be overly complex to be fun and interesting. Sometimes a good combination of roles can produce a better result.
Don't try to go overboard with the custom roles! You don't need to change the entire theme of your game for it to be interesting.

(And please don't PM FallingSnow asking about which game to choose. Thanks.)

Ready for Mafia?
Think up some ideas!

There is Nobody Left to Trust
Also known as the sequel to Spacebase 115, as Spacebase 115 was a sequel to A Lonely Voyage.

20 Players (4 Mafia, 5 Utility, 10 Town, 1 Third Party)
Cardflip
Ballot-Box Game
If the amount of living Innocent members equals the amount of living Traitor members and the Visitor is dead, the Traitors win.
If the Traitors and the Visitor are dead, the Innocent win.
If everyone but the Visitor is dead, the Visitor wins.

Although the crew of Spacebase 115 was triumphant in ridding of the traitors, people are still reminded of the tragic loss of the Celtan Gardè that was lost in an attack by traitors. After extensive searching, it was found that the menace in both attacks was hired by a crime lord that goes by an undisclosed name, and that he plans on launching more attacks in the future. It is unsure why he is launching these attacks, and what message he is trying to send, but all that is known is that he must be eliminated. Recently, a small colony was set up on the planet Dunaris-K7 and is to act as a trade checkpoint between the colonies. It is predicted that this small colony is the perfect target for one of these attacks, and so preparations have been made for any traitorous acts.

In this ballot-box game, players send their lynch votes to the host privately. At the end of the lynching period (which is the beginning of night), every single vote will be revealed and the person with the highest vote count will be lynched off. Instas will not happen in this game, and the only time that day can end is either when everyone has sent in a lynch vote or when time is up.

-Traitors-
Traitor Leader: Decides with the other Traitors on who to kill each night. He is immune to being night killed.
Traitor: Decides with the other Traitors on who to kill each night.
Jury-Rigger: Decides with the other Traitors on who to kill each night. Each day, he may jury-rig the votes, allowing him to change the vote of one person to another target, or he may paint a player any color, the paint lasts until the next day. He may not paint the same player more than once.
Spy: Decides with the other Traitors on who to kill each night. Can inspect a player each night. Cardflips black when inspected.

-Innocents-
Colony Leader: Can inspect a player each night. That player's color will be revealed to the Colony Leader only.
Doctor: Can choose a player each day, that player is immune to being night killed until the next day.
Security Guard: Can choose to kill any player at night. If he kills an innocent, he loses his ability for one night.
Agent: Can choose to kill any player at night. If he kills an innocent, he is automatically lynched off. Cardflips black when inspected.
Messenger: Just like a normal Colonist, only when they die, they may send a single message to any one living player of their choice.
Colonist (x10): A normal player with no special abilities. They vote each day to get someone lynched.

-Third Party-
The Visitor: You are a mysterious visitor to the small colony. Nobody is sure what your intentions are, and they take you for a normal tourist. Each night, you can choose to kill any player. You win if you are the last man standing.

The Traitors win if the amount of living Innocent members equals the amount of living Traitor members and the Visitor is dead.
The Innocents win if they kill off all of the Traitors and the Visitor.
The Visitor wins if they are the last player alive.
When the Messenger dies and they wish to send a private message to another player, they must PM the host with the message they wish to send, and the host will PM the chosen player with that message.
If a player is inactive, they will be turned into a Phantom. If a player returns from inactivity after becoming a Phantom, they will be given back their role. However, if a player does not return from inactivity after a day/night cycle completes, a substitute will be found for their role and they will be kicked out of the game. A Phantom player may not be targeted by abilities, lynch votes, or night kills.

Not sure if we'd be able to get 20 players.

To mix things up a bit, I thought I bring out this hella-complicated Mafia game I made a while back;

M20: Prison Secrets
A prison/jail-themed Mafia game that uses factions (for once).

Story:
Recently it was discovered that an escape was being plotted in the Joey Correctional Facility, and thus, five undercover agents were sent by an unknown organization to figure out who is trying to escape, as well as a private detective hired by the prison staff. The prison staff (and private detective), undercover agents, and five prisoners suspected of plotting an escape each work towards different goals in the prison. Who will come out on top? Vote for this game to find out!

Gameplay:
15 players
Faction Game
Cardflip
Regular Lynching

Factions:
Faction 1: The Agents
All agents know who the other agents are.
Agent Snitch: This agent can tell a player about the whereabouts (role usage) of another player. This agent can choose who to tell and who to tell about.
Agent Tamper: This agent can tamper with the items of another player (prevent them from using their ability or items) each night. However, this agent is unfortunately blind and won't know who he's tampering the items of.
Agent Fighter: This agent can choose to KO a player each night. However, this agent's color will be revealed if a staff member visits him the same night.
Agent Medic: This agent can choose to revive a player from a KO each night with his secret stash of pills.
Agent Orange: This agent is a professional actor and for that reason cardflips orange, like the other prisoners. His lynch vote also counts twice.
Winning Conditions: They must figure out who the Escapist is and have him KOed or dead by Night 6 without getting discovered by the Staff. You'll see what I mean later.

Faction 2: The Prisoners
None of the regular prisoners know who the other prisoners are.
Escapist: This is the one prisoner that has developed an escape plan, and will be able to escape on Night 6. If he is not KOed or dead on Night 6, he will escape.
Tattletale: Being the suck-up that he is, he can tell a player about the whereabouts (role usage) of another player. This prisoner can choose who to tell and who to tell about. He cardflips red because the other prisoners hate his snitch-like qualities.
Thug: He can choose to KO a player each night. However, his color will be revealed if a staff member visits him the same night.
Merchant: He can sell a player an item each night, including the staff and agents. The item can be chosen, but the player is picked at random. Items are listed below the role list.
Bunk-mate: The bunk-mate is randomly assigned to another prisoner or agent at the beginning of the game. The person he is assigned to will know he got assigned the bunk-mate. The bunk-mate's trustworthiness also causes his vote to count twice.
Winning Conditions: The Escapist must escape for the Prisoners to win, because the Escapist will be able to help the other prisoners escape afterward (these extra escapes are not part of the game, and are only for story purposes).

Faction 3: The Staff
All players know who the Staff are at the beginning of the game (and can therefore be manipulated by the prisoners and agents alike). They cannot be lynched (except in certain occasions).
Warden: The Warden is the head of the jail, therefore causing his lynch vote to count twice. He is unable to accept items from the Merchant.
Guard: The guard can choose to KO someone with his baton each night.
Chef: Each night, the Chef can chose to give a prisoner a nasty meal and make them unable to use their ability that night OR give a prisoner an delicious meal and let them use their ability twice that night.
Job Office Manager: Each night, the JOM can choose to give a prisoner a job, silencing them the next day and making their lynch vote not count. HOWEVER, the prisoner given the job will be immune to being lynched the same day.
Private Detective: The private detective was hired by the staff of the prison to investigate the escape plot, unwary of the five undercover agents' arrival. The Private Detective can inspect a prisoner each night and learn their color.
Winning Conditions: It just so happens that a previous riot had lead to the escape of five prisoners who had been arrested for breaking and entering, grand theft auto, extortion, illegal gambling, and many more burglary and money-related crimes. The Staff's goal is to "accidentally" kill all the agents. Oh, and of course they need to prevent the escapist from escaping too.

Items:
The merchant can sell any of the following things:
Pills: A player can swallow pills on a night, preventing them from getting KOed. The player must swallow the pills BEFORE they get KOed for it to work.
Contraband: A player who has Contraband can give the Contraband to another prisoner each night without the other person knowing. Players who have contraband will have their color revealed the next morning, including the player who was given contraband by the merchant if they forget to give it away. Does not work on staff members.
Bribe Item: Can only be given to Staff members. The staff member must accept the bribe, and if he does, the staff member's lynch vote will count thrice (three times) the next day. However, if the staff member accepts the bribe, and another player visits said staff member, he will automatically be killed.
Weed: The very item the Merchant got arrested for selling. The player can choose to smoke the weed any night. If they do, they won't be able to use their ability, but they can't be KOed (because they're already kinda knocked out, in a way). However, if another player visits this player the same night, they will be killed.

Other Notes:
Getting KOed is the same as being out of the game for three phases.

If there is a major balance issue with the game, please let me know.
Pseudo-dino wrote:The prisoners are seriously underpowered, I feel.
It's worth noting that there are only 15 players in the game, and that no Mafia game on this site, including Magna's 25 player game, has lasted until Night 9.
To balance this, you either need to buff the individual prisoners' abilities and make it easier for their team to stall (which, unfortunately, would make the game rather boring IMO
or push the winning night earlier, to Night 7 maybe?

I might also suggest allowing the win condition to be ANY of the prisoners surviving to Night 9.

I changed the escape night to Night 6, how does that sound? Also, are there any other ways in which the prisoners are underpowered? If it was just the Night 9 thing, then great! Also, about the all prisoners, the problem with making it so ANY prisoner needs to be alive is ludicrous and unfair to the Agents and Staff. If it was any prisoner, the Staff would basically have to wipe out both of the other factions by Night 6, which is impossible and kinda ruins part of the game. The Agents would also have 5 targets to worry about, again ruining the whole point of the game. What do you think?
I do like this game's setting and style though, it's very well handled. Just know that.
Pseudo-dino 2 wrote:Sounds good to me now. Definitely approved.

This actually took quite a while to make. I put a lot of work into this one, and I'd have to say, this is probably my best and most creative game yet. I'd like to know what you Game Masters think about it. If you find any flaws in the game, do tell so I can fix it ASAP. :)

M20 - Bomb Squad

-20 players.
-Cardflip.
-Town wins if all the Mafia is killed.
-Mafia wins if the Mafia number equals or outnumbers the Town.
-Third Party wins if he's the last one standing.
-Roles can only be used at night.
-Lynch votes must be in bolded red. If you don't bold it that's fine, but if the lynch vote isn't red, it won't be counted.
-Phases will normally be 24 hours but if I have all ability PMs or there is nothing going on during the phase, I can end it early if everyone agrees.

Detonation Squad
Detonation Commander: Leader of the Detonation Squad. Lynch vote counts as two, and he cardflips as green unless inspected, in which he cardflips red. Discusses with his fellow Mafiosi who to kill, and he sends the kill PM to the host.
Lady Inferno: The Commander's wife. She has the ability to set a player on fire, causing them to be injured, meaning that the selected player will not be able to speak the next night phase.
Human Bomb: A maniac that is willing to blow himself up to assist the Mafia. He has the ability to blow himself up, killing himself and a player of his choice. Discusses with his fellow Mafiosi who to kill.
Crazy Scientist: A wacko scientist who was involved in the Manhattan Project. He has the ability to poison a player with chemicals, causing the player to cardflip red the next day. Discusses with his fellow Mafiosi who to kill. Paintings wear off the next phase, and the player is only affected the following day phase.
Smokescreen: The Detonation Squad gave him this nickname because he loves using smoke bombs. He has the ability to throw a smoke bomb into the Defusing Squad's base, making the player of his choice's color black for the day phase. Discusses with his fellow Mafiosi who to kill.

Defusing Squad
Defusing Commander: Leader of the Defusing Squad. He has the ability to inspect a player each night to learn his or her color. Will not receive the picked player's color until the day phase to protect the sanction of balancing. Also, the Crazy Scientist's and Smokescreen's ability will not change the color of the player that the Defusing Commander inspects during inspection.
Lady Ocean: The Commander's wife. She has the ability to wash a player away to an isolated island, disabling the selected player's ability for the night.
Bomb Specialist: A bomb specialist who is assisting the Defusing Squad. He has the ability to defuse a bomb of the Detonation Squad, saving a selected player from death. Can only self-heal once throughout the entire game.
Breacher: Has the ability to breach a possible Detonation Squad base and kill a player inside. He gets put on probation for a night if he kills a member of the Defusing Squad, meaning that his ability will be disabled the next night. Additionally, if he kills a member of the Detonation Squad, his lynch vote counts as 2 the following day phase.
Defuser: An ordinary member of the Defusing Squad with no special ability. Assists the Defusing Squad by using their Mafia skill and participates in daily lynching.
Defuser
Defuser
Defuser
Defuser
Defuser
Defuser
Intellect: A rather clever member of the Defusing Squad. He has no special ability, but he is in contact with the other Intellect.
Intellect
Oddball: A rather odd member of the Detonation Squad. He means well, but he tends to act rather nervous and suspicious often. Cardflips red.

Third Party
Arsonist: Lady Inferno's long, lost son who specializes in fire. At Night 3, he gains the ability to kill players. Wins if he's the last one standing.
Pseudo-dino wrote:The Arsonist just kind of seems... there. It's up to you, but I would make him the actual arsonist or at least a serial killer, or just replace him with a another Defuser, personally.
It's well balanced overall. Approved.

Yeah, I did redact it about 30 minutes after I put it up. I don't think it was that well balanced and I'm not really interested in hosting right now anyways.

EDIT: OK, PaperPlayer, your game is approved now and Zeldamaster, your game was approved to begin with (thanks for the change).

The poll is up now, in case you didn't see. Credit goes to FallingSnow, of course.
